hello, 2009!
the weather is AWESOME outside, and I'm totally not being sarcastic about that. I love the foggy gray, especially b/c I get a good view of it here at work - for now anyways. it was really thick on new year's eve after we left the kleins. we parked the car back at the apt and took a walk around the neighborhood in it. was really cool.
i have not caught up in a long time even though all the intentions were there. hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season! i know mine was too fast, but as shelby pointed out, "you were gone for 2 weeks!" was still too fast for me. am looking fwd to the quick weekend trip to kc in feb for grandpa's 80th.
only got to see a few friends back home. getting to okc was tough b/c they had zero visibility with the fog, so i was detoured to amarillo for a few hours. was making plans to go to dallas b/c i have so many options there when they said they were gonna shoot for okc again, and that time we landed. i vegged all of friday w/ a true blood marathon which i finished up on friday. made a lot of kohl's trips, including a total score on a pair of jeans for $7. i love that store too much. saw jenny and photo_artisan sunday for some ribs, then linda and cindy monday after my annual dental cleaning with my BEST dentist. we opened presents on christmas eve, so christmas was pretty lax. first time for cajun turkey, and it was tasty. brooklyn came on friday - that girl has gotten taller and skinnier. i got to hang w/ sokrbabe and catminorityof1 on friday before her arrival. we wii'd a lot. then more wii and games w/ brooklyn.
sunday we went to pop's in arcadia for my last hurrah before heading back to la. we bought 8 bottles of pop, so sunday nite was a whole lot of fizzy sugar buzzing.
TOO much sugar overall - tons of sweet tea, braum's ice cream, braum's cherry limeades, birthday cookie for brooklyn, chocolate bundt cake, cinnamon rolls, neighbor's cookies...i was in sugar shock and about 6 lbs heavier when i left monday.
nivalieve and her mom battled the baggage claim traffic to pick me up monday morning. the traffic was not being directed, and becky's only option was to park quickly in the middle lane, but that didn't really matter much b/c so many cars were parked across that and the curb taking up both lanes, she wasn't in anybody's way that wasn't already blocked. of course, we get the cop car that rolls up, looks directly at me, and asks incredulously, "now why would you park here?" i told him to look around, and he said, "well, you coulda pulled up there," pointing to us airways a good 10 car lengths down the curb. "i could give you a citation for this, " he continues, and i said, "then you go ahead, sir, b/c there are a lot more besides us who are breaking the rules right now." the car starts rolling away as the cop mumbles, "i'll cite every one of you." ok, whatever dude. thanks for blocking traffic to make no point whatsoever instead of maybe getting out and directing the chaos.
so anyways, then we head to lunch only to find that on the border has closed their howard hughes location. BOO! so we head to island's where becky finds a hair on her fry then ANOTHER in the plate redux. we got the meal on the house and a free dessert too.
now my roxio software on my vaio isn't working, apparently a common problem w/ no good solution, so i haven't been able to burn my grandfather's funeral for mary ann and bobbie. i uploaded to vimeo as an alternate but for some reason it squished it. i haven't heard anything yet, so i won't bother to do anything further until mary ann or bobbie tell me.
i bought a dining set on a small shopping spree i had tues. this is why i love shelby so much - he put the whole thing together by himself over the past two days. he is awesome. i picked him up from lax tuesday nite, and we grabbed rosalind's in little ethiopia before sleeping most of wednesday away. we enjoyed mexican, wine, and card games with the kleins for new year's eve - in fact sam was awake briefly at midnite to share it with us. yesterday was more figuring out what to do about saturday including a trip to the store and in between enjoying kar3n and coleman's housewarming.
today i work, tomorrow i party, sunday i recoup, and monday i birthday. you are not going to get any easier or less busy on me, are you 2009?
