classes, classes, classes

CAT is starting spring classes next week.  That means about 60 pet dog people, most of whom are new or nearly new to agility, who want to sign up for classes.  They were supposed to have their applications in on Friday.  Naturally, a handful more showed up on Saturday and Monday.

For some reason, more than the usual number have gone crazy this time.

I have two students who signed up for two classes for the same dog.  I guess they thought if they took twice as many classes, the dog would learn faster!  I managed to convince them to take one class each with the lecture entitled "Your dog doesn't learn in class, he learns in at home in the week in between classes..."

Then there were the students who were planning on continuing to take their same class and thought I should just KNOW that somehow (ESP maybe?)  So I canceled the class due to low enrollment.  Then the students emailed in a tizzy because their class - for which they had NOT signed up - was shown as canceled on the web site.  So now, with enough students to hold the class, and and instructor who really, really, really wants to continue teaching them apparently, the class is back on and I have to notify the new students (who I'd told their class was canceled) that there really is a class.

And just now, a student called to tell me that he had this really fabulous opportunity to do something else on Monday night and could he possibly switch his dog from the way over filled Monday night class  with two assistants to the moderately over filled Tuesday night class with one assistant.  Then he was upset when I said no and lectured me about how the club has no sense of customer service.

OK people...this is all volunteer!  I don't do this because I enjoy abuse and neither do the instructors.  Seriously.  It's dog classes.  You're not getting credit.  Get over yourselves!  Go out hiking with your dog instead.  Take some of that weight off him... then sign up for summer or fall classes.  The world won't end.  Or go take class somewhere else if you're that serious about it.  I can recommend some really good instructors *grins evilly*

(Hey, Tammy....I hear Enid and Vivienne are taking your class now!  Try to get V to stop flapping her arms unless she wants the dog to actually do something!  Janice and I have been working on her for a year :-))
