so, the computer with strange BIOS was infected with viruses up to the .... floppy drive?
Dr. Web's CureIt took care of that.
I reset BIOS by taking the battery out, cleaned up the viruses and uninstulled a bunch of programs that shouldn't be on a school computer, as well as some redundund soft (as in, who needs MS Works, if he has MS Office 2003 Professional??)
Tomorrow I will reset BIOS again and flash it (or may be not. b/c Dell's site doesn't seem to want to "talk" to me - it just told me that with my service tag it appears that the computer was purchased outside of the US). And, if the machine still doesn't boot normally, will do system restore.
On the positive side, I'm 7 lbs thinner. :)
