Day 9: Write a letter to Jayne
Dear Jayne,
I’m not really sure where to start with this letter, but one thing that must be said is thank you for putting up with Chris all these years! I don’t know who else could deal with Chris and his crazy mind for so long and so successfully, so thank you. On your own you’re a beautiful skater but together with Chris the two of you create something incredibly special.
Partnerships only work when both halves are equal, and when they totally understand each other. As you’ve both said before, you two work because you compliment each other. Chris has most of the ideas these days but it’s you who actually takes those ideas and moulds them into the detail of a routine. The way I see it is that Chris gives you the blocks of clay that he’s chopped up and put together in something roughly resembling the right shape and proportion. You then take those rough blocks and mould them into something much closer to the end product because you can see how each piece of clay needs to be moulded to make the best possible end product. When the raw clay is finished and moulded Chris then comes along and adds the finishing touches of paint.
You keep doing what you do because you have a passion for it like Chris does, but it doesn’t consume you like it does Chris. You don’t stress and you don’t panic and I love you for that. You know what you can do, you know what other people can do, and you know how to explain things to others in a way that they’ll understand it. They still might not be able to achieve it, but they’ll understand it and they’ll try their hardest to achieve it.
I’m going to say the same thing to Chris, but please don’t change who you are. Ever. The world needs Jaynes as well as Chrises.
Much love,
Brina.
