I can't believe I'm doing this again already.
I guess the question of "What will Buddy do?" has been answered.
This morning, less than 3 weeks after his sister died, Buddy collapsed without warning and died with his head in my hands a moment later. We rushed him to the vet, but there was nothing they could do. His heart had failed.
I was up most of the night building myself a new computer, but most of the time was spent watching movies and napping and hanging out with Buddy. I'm glad I got to spend his last hours with him, and thankful that this didn't happen when he was alone.
There was no warning of this, no signs; it just...happened. Buddy had been obviously lonely, looking for Boots, and somewhat emotionally out of sorts since she died, but he was eating again and doing all the usual stuff. I didn't know that his broken heart would be the end of him.
He was such a great companion, aptly named, he'd hang out on the porch while I worked on cars or just generally plant himself near us, whatever we were doing.
We rescued Boots and Buddy 4 years ago, when they were 9, after their people passed away. So they had a whole life that we never knew, and had lost so much. And now with Buddy losing his sister...it was really really hard on him, poor sweet awesome pup.
We've lost both our dogs now in the last three weeks. Fuck.
