Just before I left I walked up to his stall and whispered, "Thank you, butthead," because if I spoke any louder my voice would waver.
Thank you, George, for evading corners, falling off walls, bolting that one time and careening around at a gallop because OMG I PICKED UP A WHIP, tripping over every pole at the walk but clearing them cleanly at the canter, and ducking around me and escaping your stall without your halter because I made the mistake of trusting you for half a second. It made all the rest of the time, when you were a stunningly talented and clever dressage horse, all the sweeter. It's been a helluva year old man.
May you continue to jump out of dressage rings to remind people what your true passion in life is, and canter over all the poles forever.
