Regarding Mr. Magnusson

Feb 22, 2006 22:42

As many of you probably know now, Mr. Mag was diagnosed with cancer within the past few months. He's now in Stage 4, and is being treated with chemo but they aren't giving him very much time. There is a plan to go and sing for him on saturday at his house if you're interested. Here's the latest info, please pass on to whoever you think would want to know: (Courtesy of Heather Wallace-Rey)

Hi everyone! Here's the update for this Saturday...please call me at 815-439-0265 if this does not make sense, or if you have questions. (It's been a long week and it's always a little crazy at my house!) Saturday plans:

1. 10 am - meet to practice for singing for Mr Mag - CHANGE OF PLANS - we are NOT practicing at Jerry's school, he knows many of us and was afraid that once we knew where he worked, we'd be constantly stalking him....(I have his cell phone number, however, if anyone wants it...) SERIOUSLY, BECAUSE THERE ARE 40 OF US COMING, we are going to practice at the 1st Congregational Church of Des Plaines - the address is 766 Graceland Avenue, Des Plaines. It's right across from the OLD Des Plaines Library. When you get to the church, park in the back and come in the back door (by the elevator) and I'll be there to greet you. For those who have asked, it looks like we will be singing "The Wassail song" (Mag told his wife it was one of his favorites?), "You'll Never Walk Alone" (from Carousel...I think some of us sang this for graduation at one point) and something else that Jerry has on hand. Although for those who are my age...(and I'm not telling how old that is at this point) I was really hoping for a little rendition of Alvinu Malkenu or Allen-a-Dale...or maybe the Chicago song...because it's the people that make it great!

2. 11:30 - depart to go to Mag's house to sing. Mag's address is 175 N. Wolf Road - for those who are joining us there. It's about 5 houses off the circle. We plan to arrive at Mag's at 11:45 or noon.

3. After singing for Mag - we are planning to go to lunch at Giuseppe's LaCantina (formerly Nick's LaCantina...again, for the people my age) Giuseppe's is opening for lunch ESPECIALLY FOR US and we will have our own room reserved. The cost for lunch is $12.00 per person, cash or check ONLY ...no credit cards. Lunch includes pizza, salad, rolls, and pop...if you want alcoholic beverages, that's not included in the $12.00. IF YOU WANT TO COME FOR LUNCH - I NEED TO KNOW BY FRIDAY MORNING SO I CAN GIVE GIUSEPPE'S A HEAD COUNT. Please email me yes or no, so I can RSVP to them. Again, I know we're all busy...but it would be so wonderful to get to have lunch with all of you, so let me know (of course spouses and kids are welcome!) - and for little kids, I'm imagining that we won't pay for a plate for them.

4. If you have a letter or pictures, Cyndi (Neumeier) Karmik has purchased a book to put all of our letters to Mag in...bring whatever you want included to rehearsal on Saturday, and she'll put the stuff in the book. We have already received quite a few letters, but would love to include more!

Just a note - I have been talking to Stacey and she is still really excited to see all of us...as is Mag, however, I have heard from people who have recently visited him and he is still going to chemo, and tires very easily. For those of you who were hoping for a one-on-one visit, my advice (for what it's worth) is ....set up a time when we see Stacey on Saturday to come back. There are going to be so many of us there on Saturday that, unfortunately, it will most likely just be singing, no one-on-one time. While I know this will mean so much to him to have us all there singing, it will wear him out in about 20 minutes, and then we'll have to be on our way. Again, I have gotten emails from many of you who no longer really sing....the important part is that you show up....not how you sound this time (how anti-Mag is THAT?) And for those who are getting this who can't be with us on Saturday, ( I know many have emailed that they feel really bad about already being booked this weekend!) call Stacey and go see him when you do have time...or write a letter and tell him how you feel...that's what really matters.

Looking forward to seeing you all on Saturday! With love, Heather (Wallace) Rey
