Leah and I went out for drinks last night. It was fun, actually. We seem to get along fine when it is just the two of us, but I strongly suspect that there is a strange dynamic between all four of us in the house hen we're all together.
koshweasley and
wolfiekins were supposed to join us but "fell asleep on the couch." I write too much slash to believe that excuse. (kidding)
Charles and Leah's friends are coming today, too. I think. Hell, as Towlie from South Park would say, "I have no idea what's going on..." I have things to do today, but wanted to be home when they come because it is easier on Malcolm. I talked to several dog training experts and they all said that when people come to visit when Andrew and I are not home, Malcolm gets confused as to what he is supposed to be doing. Generally, if we're not home he goes into protective mode and if we are home new people are fine, but he does not necessarily understand what to do if we're NOT home, but Charles and Leah are.
It's raining and muddy here and really kind gross. The thaw revealed several months of frozen dog poo on the front lawn. Obviously, you can't really clean up well in the winter. I should go deal with it but most of is is Panama's and, more importantly, who the hell wants to pick up wet dog poo in the rain?
Sorry, I'm kinda crass today.
So, onto the recs. If there's a theme here, it's long works (hopefully) worth reading.
hp_nextgen_fest brings us the fantastic
Discombobulation, a murder mystery of epic (25,000 word) proportions. It is mostly Al/Viktor Krum, but I highly advise you to skip the spoilers/pairings section as it deeply increases the mystery and suspense. Cormac McClaggen turns up dead in his office and Al finds him. Almost more distressingly, Cormac's replacement is none other than Al's crush, Viktor Krum with whom he once had... well, I'll let that by a mystery, too. Chaos ensues in a very adult, real-worldly manner that anyone who has ever had a very bad day at the office will appreciate. Al is fantastic here and I really enjoyed his observations and quips about life. I found myself thinking, "Oh, that's something I'd think, too." many times throughout the story. Oh, and the Potters are wonderfully f-ed up in a Gossip Girl sort of way. I really enjoyed reading this, not just for the HP part, but for the story itself. It's NC17, but not in the least bit vulgar.
Next up is a fun PG-rated Rose/Luna comic called "
Quick Quotes" The drawings are lovely and Rita Skeeter as a nice little cameo.
The
lupinbigbang story of the day is
Magic by me. It's Remus/Sirius (are you shocked? lol) and NC17 and explored the idea of how Remus vies magic throughout his life. It's gotten good reviews so far. And if you enjoy italics, this is the story for you because something went wrong with the coding. We're fixing it, but at the moment it's very... italicized.
