When I was young, I would watch "The Adventures Of Mark Twain" so often that various scenes would burn inside my brain. The "Mysterious Stranger" scene was one of them. Hence the quote. The whole movie was phenomenally disturbing, but that scene was truly fucked up and beautifully insane.
Also, I really think Frank the Rabbit from "Donnie Darko" was based slightly on
The Mysterious Stranger.
