So I think I'm going to buy a house..

Yesterday, I went to go visit my friend who lives in Oakland, and while we were there, we stopped at a house in San Leandro (a bordering city). And needless to say, it was gorgeous- 3 bedrooms, 1.5 bathrooms, and a garden that was shown on HGTV. It was a arts and crafts style home with AMAZING hardwood floors, and spectacular archways into each room. The surrounding neighborhood reminded me of something deep in the heart of Willow Glen, and it was selling for 500k. Needless to say, I fell in love with it. After a bit of calculations, I found out that my mortgage would only be a couple hundred dollars more than my rent is each month! The only thing is, I'd have to make a great case to my trust administrators to give me a substantial downpayment, but, I don't think that would be all that hard since this is such a great time to buy a home. If that didn't work out, I could always enroll myself in one of those first time buyer programs that the government sponsors.

Call me crazy, but I feel like I'm throwing money down the drain each month when I write out my rent check. Since the money is not going to building a substatial asset, I'm essentially wasting $2240 each month. That's completely absurd.

So, I think that I'm going to be contacting a realtor and loan consultant soon to see how I would go about *safely* buying some property.
