I was actually happy when the news came out that Paul Pierce opted out of his player option in favor of unrestricted free agency status. Because in my heart of hearts, I expect him to drum up another contract with the Celtics to see him stay in Boston through retirement. But Celtics fans seem more keen on seeing him leave, and there's still the possibility he can very well go to another team.
A minuscule part of me wants him to sign for a Los Angeles team, so it's frankly easier for me to see him-I can sweet-talk my aunt into letting me stay over. =P Preferably the Clippers, so tickets will be cheaper. In some perverse fashion, he may be tempted to sign with the Lakers too, but I don't think he'll have the heart to do it now. He just can't.
But, ah, be careful what you wish for....

The World Cup is hot in Manila right now.
I don't know why!
When I started following football back in France '98, there was little fanfare. I did think it was a miracle that the local government-run channel was showing live matches alongside TVE.
In Japan/South Korea '02, there was no live coverage in the Philippines, in Manila, at least.
In Germany '06, live matches were annoyingly pay-per-view; only reruns were shown on free TV. There were a few bars who would air live World Cup games, and therese6883 and I watched the Italy-France final live in a restaurant.
Now, everyone here's talking about it! Where did all these Filipino football fans come from?
I have a few theories:
- Good marketing by Sky Cable, the biggest cable provider in the country, for Balls (who bought the World Cup rights here).
- Facebook and Twitter. Bandwagon.
- Growing expat presence in Manila, so there's also a bit of bandwagoning involved.
- People were into it all along, but I'm just now more aware of them because of Facebook and Twitter.

- Toy Story 3 just reinforced my Pixar adoration. I just can't rank the three Toy Story movies, because one of them will be in last place. I love how the plot was so...Arrested Development-esque with their callbacks. I hope Pixar keeps hiring Michael Keaton as voice talent, because his two Pixar characters so far-Chick Hicks from Cars and now Ken-are just hilarious.
- I'll post the food pics from Cebu once Pie gives us a disc with all our pics.
- I really have no patience with photography, which I found out when I wasn't at all bothered that I didn't bring a camera to Cebu. So I really have to tell myself that I should never splurge on an expensive camera, unless I'm obscenely rich. I'd rather buy an iPhone 4 than an expensive camera. Besides, I'd rather be in the picture than take a picture. =P
- I hate driving too, because I have a low attention span. Haha! Maybe I have ADD. I still prefer being driven around. I still don't have the guts to take a stick shift car out on my own; maybe if we had an automatic transmission car, I would've gone out and driven on my own several months ago.
- I'm actually excited for college basketball season, even if I don't like anyone in there anymore. School cheers rock. =P
