Life as a Mommy

Well, it's been 2 weeks to the day since my little girl was born, and boy has it been an adjustment.

We discovered at the hospital that Brin was losing weight...too much for them to be comfortable with. We had a public health nurse come buy to weigh her a couple of days after we brought her home, and she had still lost a few ounces. She had gone from her birth weight of 8lb 14oz to 7lb 15oz. I started getting worried, but the nurse put us on a feeding plan with formula and a week later she is 8lb 15oz. My little piglet.

The sleeping schedule has been COMPLETELY out of whack, although Shae has been an absolute godsend, as has my sister who is in town from MOntreal for a couple of weeks to help out. We've been taking turns getting up with the little vampire (since she loves to sleep all day and rarely at night), although it's been more of "whoever gets to her first".

The hormones are the real kicker....holy hell! One minute I'm fine and dandy, then suddenly I'm in tears for hours on end. Baby blues suck! But at least it's not a constant thing...it's only happened a couple of times.

All in all, I'm thankful everyday for the gift Shae and I have been given. She's the most beautiful thing I've ever laid eyes on. Watching her change everyday is amazing. I can see small subtle changes in her facial expressions and appearance....not to mention the outgrowing of newborn clothes already.

Someone's asking for their mom right now, so this journal entry is done. Now I understand how being a mom is the most rewarding job anyone can have. It makes me very appreciative of the mom I have (and I'll be seeing her in a week or so...YAY!)
