Wow .. what an end to the year ..
Let's see .. it's been about six months since the last .. so an update is long past due.
July - Lost one of my best friends and someone who I cared deeply about. She told me that she was completely removing me from her life, and although she provided (somewhat) of an explanation, it was very sudden and did not make much sense. However, I'm respecting her decision and her space and leaving her be. Losing her friendship and insights was the first of a few hard hits during the later part of this year.
August - Finally had my "day in court." It resulted in my lawyer (expensive but worth every damn penny) arguing back and forth with the (4th) D.A. assigned to my case for several hours. Trial was set to start that day, but ultimately they offer and I was told to take a deal. Charges were dropped to a Misdemeanor, and three years Deferred Adjudication to be served in California. I wasn't happy about it (I wanted to fight it out, maintaining/proving my innocence), but as my attorney advised me .. "I'd look to having you committed for passing this up."
September - Lost my outstanding job making scary cash for the scary paranoid lunatic. Then ran into the Ex @ El Spooky .. who decided to call the D.A.'s office and have a fit. Even though I ignored her and avoided her all night, she decided to tell me off outside in front of a friend (who nearly attacked her for it), but I ignored it and let her pass without incident. This ultimately resulted in a fight with my P.O. over the "specifics" of my probation, which resulted in spending the better part of the month as a guest in Tarrant County. Eventually, I found myself in West Texas with my iPhone, my lighter, a book, and the clothes on my back. That's another story .. but upon getting back to Dallas I found out we were being evicted from the Funeral Home .. and I had two days. So ..
October - Moved in with a friend for a few weeks into her spare room .. unfortunately she was allergic to cats, so it was temporary. Ended up moving in with a couple of friends that needed a replacement roommate. Nice house (although it was somewhat of a "we don't believe in cleaning .. anything" .. and "we literally physically fight almost every night") .. and found a job slaving for the Ft. Worth Magic Shop until Halloween.
November - Found out one of my best and closest friends died. Spent most of the next week helping make arrangements to get people out to Lubbock for services, then was asked to speak at the funeral. Rough week all around, ended up in Amarillo for a few days afterwards with friends .. which helped out a lot. Also ran into a few old buddies from the old days when I used to live up there myself .. couldn't ask for anything better to come from a tragedy such as that.
Late November - Got the travel permit to take care of Shef @ the same time as approval to (finally .. after three months) transfer to California. Ironic, considering that he was planning on making the trip west with me, and we were just waiting to hear when. Almost got really angry about that .. then realized it didn't/wouldn't make any difference.
December - Finally (more or less) settled in. My dear friend Spider came down from Fresno to spend Thanksgiving with me, and we had a good time. Also made some new friends and got back in touch with some old friends.
More or less maintaining right now. School starts in February .. in the meanwhile just trying to take a breather from the last year (or so) .. making new friends .. looking for new work .. and going to finish out school and put it behind me.
So yea .. I'm doing pretty damn well .. came away from that last fiasco losing all my worldly possessions, but gained a lot more (especially perspective and wisdom) .. and here I am returning to school.
Funny how things work out.
Although .. that whole "Don't stick your penis in the crazy" rule? Yea .. have you ever been to Southern California? I'm not going to get laid for years ...
