Seeking Advice

Food photos of this weekend's bbq will be posted as soon as I sort out iPhoto. I was playing with Mr. Brienze's new 24" iMac today (freakin' HUGE screen), and imported photos there to see how the software worked. It arranges things very prettily, and has the type of Levels adjustment I like (the PhotoShop style) rather than the one that drives me batty (the PSP style). But, apparently, the effort to make "photo manip for dummies" has removed any ability to specify resizes. Sorry, but I'm not uploading "small" or "medium" pictures... I want to choose how damn many pixels it is across! Will poke at it a bit more with Mr. Brienze's help, and then probably start all over on a computer that has real editing software.

Which brings me to today's poll...

I would really like to get decent software, but I kind of flail over what to get, aside from Photoshop, which I ♥ mightily. I'd like a way of burning DVDs that will actually insert the subtitles files if I have them, and compress so that I can at least fit a Doctor Who ep and its corresponding Confidential on the same disc. NeroVision bombs out on both those issues. I'd play around with making fanvids if the same DVD burning software had decent tools for that. And I need something better than shareware PolderbitS Sound Editor for importing and cleaning up audio cassettes... that program was buggy enough that I don't want to pay for it now that the 2 week free trial is up.

Oh, and if there is such a thing as digital scrapbooking, I could use libraries of borders, textures, fonts, clipart, etc that a non-graphic designer could use to pretty up recipes-with-photos web pages using nothing fancier than CSS. Again, I just don't know where to look, so I'll happily take suggestions of anything y'all have, or covet, that sounds like it's what I want.

It is rainy here, so inspired by last night's Anthony Bourdain show, I'm putting leftover brisket chunks into a faux Chinese hot pot for dinner. Mmm, soup.
