The Labor Day BBQ food pics are up
over here. Tonight has been an evening of "we are too stupid to breathe" moments... the Windoze install Mr. Brienze has been trying to do on a partition of his new iMac kept failing because the CD was dirty, and the resizing capability that I couldn't find in iPhoto was hidden inside a "Custom" button on the Export File dialog box.
Now that I know how to work the dang thing, I bring you an extra picture, of the current sock and the results of today's yarn shopping trip:
schmoo999's sock yarn is in the upper left, and the beige and gray/green next to it are for a nifty class I just signed up for, where they teach continental knitting and fair isle at the same time. I'm not sure how the rest of that yarn came home with me, except by the hoarder's perennial excuse... they were having a 20% off sale. And the pink/red/blue/yellow one in the near right is exactly the same color blend as the wings on my front door's stained glass dragon, so I had to have it. Then I saw the green/brown one (just to the left), which rather matches all the rest of the door, and I had to have it too. No clue what I'll do with them, except I'm wondering if entrelac can be used to make a sort of knitted patchwork quilt... I could "remake" my door's design in yarn, and frame it or something. Or, you know, I'll just wind up making socks. The blue and the brown of that same yarn (right rear) came home for as-yet-unspecified sock-making purposes.
Yet another one-day knitting class tomorrow, in finishing techniques. I need to learn to weave in ends, change colors, and piece seams together nicely. Then I go shopping for halloumi, for this weekend's experimental meal. My local grocery store is getting an amazing revamp, complete with our own cheese shop and a ton of international imports, but today they had no halloumi.
Lemme backtrack and 'splain. In the never-ending war on my patience and good cheer aka what to cook in our household (less violent an issue than IEDs but at times no less explosive), I'm adopting a new strategy. Fridays shall be Soup Night. Mr. Brienze likes just about any kind of soup as long as it isn't predominantly green vegetable-ish. So on Friday I shall make soup, the leftovers of which he can eat Sunday, which is Football Day (usually) and thus my day of self-indulgence, where I will try new recipes and cook what I damn well please.
Today I found a new kind of Thai sweet and sour sauce among the import stuff, so I'm going to make a Thai red curry, and along with it some deconstructed cheese rolls. These cream-cheese-stuffed spring roll cigars, dipped in sweet and sour sauce, have been impossible to duplicate at home even when I used the deep fryer. So instead I'm going to pan-fry halloumi, pour the sauce over, and impale it with triangles of baked phyllo. We shall see.
Oh, and I've decided that whatever else I get, it will not be a 24" iMac. The screen sits so high above the desktop surface that I'd have to sit in a bar stool to not be craning my neck (I'm both short and short-waisted), and at that point my feet would no longer be on the ground. Guess I can see what the iBooks are like, though.
