Just another day in the hood

My day yesterday in buttons:
  • The entry room of our main cabin has been misinterpreted by our cats. They think it's their trophy room. Right there in the middle of the (formerly) nice rug they leave their little victims-of-the-night. Mostly mice of different sorts (I never knew there were so many different sorts...*shudders*) and the occasional bird. Yesterday morning I came into the entry room to be greeted by a dead hare that was as big as one of the cats. What?? Really Cats?? How did you guys even get that sucker in through the little cat door? (I don't think the cats were actually responsible for the death of the hare. That part looked to be the work of birds of prey.)
  • I had several unrelated emails and phone calls at work that all point to things looking very bright on the job front.
  • Björn and I got to take showers yesterday. Woohoo! When you live out in the middle of nowhere you are dependent on well water. Our particular well water is brought to us by a pump I have renamed Spawn of Satan. The water delivery is so unreliable that Björn actually leaves his bathwater in the tub after his very long Swedish baths so that we have emergency handwashing and toilet-flushing-with-a-bucket water available as needed. We haven't had water since Tuesday. Getting a plumber to actually show up is a trick, but the second one Björn called last week actually did come and recommended that we bury the pump below the ground. He can do that next week. While he was here we managed to get a few old Pepsi bottles filled up, and between those and the bath water we've been surviving while Spawn of Satan is on strike. But we were both feeling a little less-than-fresh by yesterday so Björn called our local gym and asked how much they'd charge for us just to come and take showers. We were invited to use the facilities for free and we not only got to clean up we also got to fill a few Pepsi bottles with fresh water!
  • Anyone who knows me knows that this post has to have four buttons. The fourth thing from yesterday is a lovely evening: chicken from the deli, good TV, a nice fire and a clean husband beside me. All in all a beautiful day in the neighborhood (for me, not for the hare).
