Nature

On the asexual nature of American heroes:

"The whole notion of romantic or sexual love is something that is entirely missing from the classic American masculine epic.... Whatever conflict and and whatever evolution these men undergo, they do it in the company of their one true love, nature, and they do it by themselves or with the help of a trusted male sidekick. Women are for rescuing and also for tipping your hat to as you ride off into the sunset without them." -- Elizabeth Gilbert, "The Last American Man" p. 58

I think I have often assumed I could live my life this way. Part of me still really wants to believe that nature can be my first and only love, despite some inconvenient evidence to the contrary.
