H I S T O R Y
Born in
Bordeaux located in southwestern France, Timothy Cabot was the only child of Henri and Ava Cabot. His mother, originally known as Ava Shaw, daughter of Rebecca Barnes Shaw and her husband Caleb Shaw, met her husband Henri Cabot while studying abroad at the École des Beaux-Arts (School of Fine Arts) located off of the Rive Gauche in Paris. The pair separated for a few years before coming back together and eventually getting married, only to produce their son and move to the Bordeaux where Ava continued working from the home in the art of restoration and Hernri worked as an Engineer for the military at the Bordeaux-Mérignac Air Base.
Growing up, Timothy's household was rather tense from the beginning. His father, a rather aggressive man, wanted his son to be the epitome of perfection and hold no flaw that he could be accountable for. His mother on the other hand was a quiet woman and un-supportive in her son's cause which caused for a rather patriarchally dominated home life. What stood above all else in the household, asides obedience, was education. Since the age of two, Timothy was enrolled in pré-maternelle and très petite section classes affiliated to a borough's primary school. From there, he moved on to primary school and while he spend his cours préparatoire (first year) in a local establishment, his father moved him the year after to a private school which was geared in growth towards enrollment and occupation in the military.
Unfortunately for Timothy's father, he was was much more of an artist than he was a solider. A creative mind, Timothy often found his escape from his home life throughout the city and from a very early age made friends with those who made their travel about the city of Bordeaux through the use of
parkour. While he was younger, those who he learned from taught him well and from that he grew. It was a manner in staying in shape, a manner of become faster and stronger in ways that the school could not develop and above all it was fun, it brought excitement into his world which he felt was mildly akin to prison. Granted the group of people he began to hang out with were not the best influences in his life and as Timothy started to approach that delightful stage of teenage rebellion, he didn't think a smoke or a drink was so bad every now and then and asides, it was a useful habit to be able to use rolling papers and Timothy found it was easier to make friends when you could be helpful.
During the time of growth in his life and quiet rebellion that he sat aside for his time after school or late into the night once his parents had fallen asleep, Timothy also had begun to realize that the growth of his affections towards others didn't drift to the traditional lusting over the older blossoming teenage girls but instead the young men who he found companionship in. Yet, because he was a rather open minded individual Timothy didn't ever question his sexuality and seemingly from the beginning of it's existence he had realized that he was queer and there was no shame in that. Yet unfortunately for Timothy, it was his openness and easy going attitude towards his more romantic inclinations that caught the attention of his father and when he was caught kissing classmate Anton Leclair his life made a sudden turn for the worse.
Bent on changing his sons mind on his homosexuality and dallying with the local rabble, Timothy's father immediately moved their household to the western city of
La Flèche after Timothy completed his last year at primary school. There, Henri was quick to enroll his son into the
Prytanée National Militaire, originally Collège Royal Henry-Le-Grand, a school managed by the military that offered secondary education in the form of preparatory school classes that were equivalent in the level to the first years of university for students bound to enter military academies, something that Henri made it clear Timothy would do. His dream for his son, and the way he thought he could fix him, was eventually getting him into the
École Spéciale Militaire de Saint-Cyr, the foremost French military academy. While it was something Timothy did not want, his fathers firsts were enough to submit and at least do well in school and do well he did. It was no secret of Timothy's sexual orientation and amongst the perpetual bullying and flat out prejudice due to his differences, it caused Timothy to strive towards being great than those students and instructors that teased him on a regular basis, it provided him with the drive to become the best, the most talented, the most intelligent and strongest in his class because proving them all wrong was the best manner of revenge.
Throughout his years of schooling Timothy became very well versed in several subjects and as he continued to seek escape outside of his home after school hours, after work was done, he became stronger and more agile through bounding through the city and continuing his learning and training of parkour. In school, strategically his mind developed in sciences and mathematics while he took on and became well versed in language not only native to his own but also English and Russian which he studied inside the home and out. His marksmanship was developing to be on par with those above his current class level and he made it a point to go to the shooting range on weekends to assure of that. Attending the schools and being cautious under his fathers household rule may have caused Timothy to be more of a recluse socially but it didn't stop him from being different and believing that if he could maintain being the best in all these things he did, he could change peoples minds on who he was and prove that sexuality had nothing to do with worth.
Living a seemingly nomadic life, Timothy always maintained several things and beyond his beliefs that was his connection and relationship with his grandmother who lived back in America. If he did not call her or speak to her weekly it was a strange thing because in his shrouded life his grandmother, Rebecca Shaw, was the a positive and nurturing light. Even though she had lost many people in her life, as she would tell Timothy in her stories that he would remember fondly, she remained a loving, caring and strong individual and to Timothy that brought hope through the struggles his teenage life was experiencing. Seemingly an outcast, his grandmother made him feel loved and to Timothy--that was enough in itself.
Yet, when Timothy was nearing the age of sixteen his grandmother became ill with alzheimers. His mother, worried for her own mothers well being and refusing to send her to a home, took a stand for once in a very long time and begged Herni to move to America so they could watch after her until her final years. Then they could return to France, then they could continue as they had been but she had been so far away for so long, she felt it was the least they could offer her. His father giving into his mothers plea, Timothy found himself once again uprooted and moving into a home next to his grandmothers in the coastal city of
Ventnor City, New Jersey a city located near the well known Atlantic City. There his father enrolled him once more into a military school, so that he could continue his control over his son and unconsciously further Timothy's own strength and determination to succeed past the standards he was given.
Attending the United States Military Academy Preparatory School in New Jersey, Timothy was tormented further, if not more so than he was within his home country. His life maintained a miserable level to it but that did not halt his attempts to silently prove himself better than those who kicked him down. Still, he had a better support system now and outside schooling he remained close to his grandmother in which he found sanctuary from his parents and from his life in general. Juggling between school and attending to his ailing grandmother, Timothy kept up his extracurricular activities and continued training in parkour, maintaining his practice in marksmanship on the weekends all while taking on a part-time job at a local record store. At this point, it was anything to keep his mind off the hardships, to simply stay out of the house.
Feeling as if time was growing short to get to hear more of his grandmothers stories, Timothy started recording her tales so that he could listen to them later, or use them possibly in the future when she would not be around to assist him in what the past was like. It was during this time though, that she started to speak more of those she was closest too in her childhood and one of those characters was her brother, James Buchanan Barnes. The two had been separated and she placed into a boarding school after their fathers death. Since then they had rarely heard from one another until 1945 when she got notice that her brother had passed away. While the story had continued on to speak of those around her, how she met her husband and so forth--Timothy made the choice to deeply focus on the past and research more into his family tree.
More importantly, his focus came to his great uncle who inspired him through his involvement in the war to know more of him.
In his research, in the days in which he could spend at the local library things started to click, ideas started to formulate through rather intense and rigorous digging, soon came to the conclusion of who exactly James Buchanan Barnes was; and that was a war hero, a partner to Captain America. His great uncle and pushed through strife to succeed as a sidekick to someone who an entire nation looked up to, and if that wasn't something to spearhead Timothy into the great desire for success, then what could? Heroes still existed in the world, they still protected against threats that were not so well known to the public eye and at times were so Timothy came to the sudden realization that if he could prove to be outstanding then maybe he too, someday, could be a hero.
Timothy's efforts proved themselves to not be in vein when he was spontaneously recruited to the Young Avengers through the
Avengers Failsafe Program at the age of seventeen. Assisted in weaponry and costume development through the group, he kept his talents in normality as his strengths while so many around him seemed supernatural. While it was intimidating at first, his prowess in marksmanship, agility through parkour and strategic mindset helped him in gaining his teammates trust and proving his stay. Operating with the team under the alias of the Nomad, a name he had picked up through furthered study, he stood alongside the group throughout thick and thin, coming to depend on them heavily and meeting several Avengers along the way that helped shape him and his alias. One of the handful that he came into contact was the Captain America of the era Steve Rogers, and in their time spent together he learned a great deal from him, picked up many improvements and found that out of most of the Avengers he was someone he could relate to in a mild sense.
So when the Civil War came about, Timothy who sided with the team on the anti-registration side alongside Steve, witnessed his supposed death on the courthouse steps and while he continued to move alongside his teammates, was immediately devastated and the lost of someone he could few as a possible mentor. It was after the Civil War when Timothy heard news of another man claiming to be Captain America emerging to fight. Unknowing to who the other was, there was mild irritation at the concept of someone picking up the shield that Steve had lost so recently. So in a fit of angry, Timothy headed out to confront the man who was now holding the familiar cowl and color. To his surprise, upon finding the man it was soon revealed that the man who had seemingly offended Timothy so was none other than his great uncle, James "Bucky" Barnes.
Since then, Timothy has warmed up to the idea of Bucky and his stance as Captain America. From the end of the
Civil War clear throughout the
Secret Invasion,
Dark Reign and
Siege, Timothy worked alongside the Young Avengers while in the spare time joining his uncle as a form of protege to assure that not only he learns from those he knows best, but better gets to know those he would call family.

The purpose of this write up is for week 161 | CANON SWAP at the role-playing game
a_facility and is in no means claiming to be part of the Marvel canon. Due to Timothy's personal character relations with most of the Marvel cast he will be swapped into the verse as the Nomad, incorporating him into the time line through various means as informed above. As a note, Rebecca Barnes, as she is listed, is not Rikki Barnes but the canon sister of James "Bucky" Barnes. The assumption of the time line is that Rikki Barnes never was brought from her alternative universe (after the Onslaught Reborn mini-series) and therefore never existed within the current sphere since within this sphere she died as an infant. During the swap, the character will still maintain the idea that they have been in facility simply they believe they are from another universe. Yet all the memories they hold as far as relationships are concerned and the fact they have been in the facility remain.
