A peek at my monkey brain

Rambling tonight... Lotta random stuff floating around in my head. Let’s see if putting it down in black and white makes it quiet down in here.

I love eighties music. You can sing along to it. It’s fun, and bouncy. And most important it has a good beat and you can dance to it ! I just wish they didn’t have to call it “oldies” because that makes me feel old.

Thinking about bosses this week. There’s been a long thread on the techwr-l mailing list about someone’s horrible boss situation, and what the poster can do about it? And a friend posted something about their boss in their LJ, and as I was writing my reply I realized that the reason why I haven’t been really looking for another job is because I really like both of my new bosses. And I’d rather stay at a crappy job with a good boss than leave it for somewhere where I might have a bad boss. Because a bad boss can ruin even a terrific job.

Saw an article online today that said something about “Yes there are blacklists at companies.” And one of the reasons that people get laid off is because they get onto those blacklists. Listening to one of my coworkers bitching to the boss again today, I had to wonder if he has any idea how bad it can be to be a constant pain in the ass?

I find it very flattering when my manager stops by my cube on her way out the door and asks, “Can we clone you?” To which I of course replied, “Would that mean you’d double my pay?” =)

Beth is at it again. She posted an “Open Letter” about me on a password protected message board. Did she forget that she’s the one who gave me the URL and passwords? In it she announces that David and I have broken up (what business does she have “announcing” that?) and practically takes credit for it (who wants to take credit for causing someone heartache?). Still baffled by her.

I have a new book. ::does the happy dance:: Living the Past. I saw it at Reenactor Fest on the table as part of the Roman Exhibition and just had to order it when I got home. It has photos of a ton of living history sites in England. Must go back to England. Soon. Preferably while Jimmy is still over there, cause it would be way cool to get to see him jousting at the Royal Armouries.

Anyone watching The Closer with Kyra Sedgewick? It rocks. And next week is the episode where the guest star is Marina Sirtis (Counselor Troi from Star Trek the Next Generation). I never thought Marina was much of an actress, but I literally did not recognize her in this role.

Kim stopped by and asked me what I was doing this weekend? Told him it was my birthday. He went back to his desk and sent me a really funny e-card. (He’s the one I sent a card to earlier this year.) It has a picture of a dog with his nose right up in the camera. And then it says, “At least you don’t smell like old people yet.” LOL!

My ex-husband dropped by the office to deliver a small gift and a card, which was sweet. But then he had to stay and chat. And chat. And chat some more. After he finally left I made it back up to my cube and thought, “Good lord, I’m exhausted.” He’s still an energy drain on me.

Mentioned to my ex that I had talked to David recently. “You still talk to him?” “Why not? I still talk to you.”

Stopped by the YMCA on the way home tonight to get a pool schedule. How long has it been since I’ve been to the gym you ask? It’s been so long since I’ve been to the gym that the empty lot across the street is now sporting a brand spanking new condo complex. Eeeep. OK, time to get back in the pool. Monday.

Also stopped on the way home to buy a birthday card for my evil twin Bob (born the same day as me). Found one that says, “You can’t be old, you’re my age!” Perfect. Must mail tomorrow.

They had Peeps flavored lip balm hanging next to the cash register. Ewwwww!

Companies need to think about what happens when they launch a marketing campaign for a new product and consumers can’t find the product in their local grocery stores. I have been to at least 8 stores looking for the Weight Watchers 1 point snack cakes. Still can’t find them. I asked at my meeting if anyone had found them? And at which stores? Still no luck. I have found whole grain Fig Newtons. Can’t find the whole grain Digorno pizza yet. And I’m in the mood for pizza this weekend. Oh well.

Found a WW LJ community. One more journal to add to my reading list.

BattleStar Galactica tonite. Whoot!

Just an FYI, it’s “Sobczak” not “Sobzjac.” I cringe every time I see it spelled wrong. Although Walter is probably up in heaven laughing his ass off at us because we can’t spell it right.

I miss kissing.
