Technical writers make bad readers

I will never get over how someone can ask a specific question on one of my technical writing mailing lists and get a flurry of responses where Not One Person actually answers their question.

In this case, someone asked for research that supported using serif vs sans serif fonts for printed manuals because their manager said that their statement about industry standards was "just an opinion" with nothing to back it up (so they asked a very specific question). They got a flurry of answers about tradition, what other people preferred, what other people had used at previous jobs, what to use in print vs. online, and links to people's favorite fonts. *headdesk*

I was the only person to bother to google and sent them links to actual research like they'd asked for to make their decision/argument.
