It’s been a rough week for 69 year old British celebrities with cancer. I woke up Monday morning to find out that we’d lost David Bowie, and woke up Thursday morning to the news that Alan Rickman had decided to join him for a drink in Heaven. Well bugger all. Fuck Cancer. Yes, I know I keep repeating myself, but I'm BUMMED about this. =(
Thus, this week, we needed to try to focus on the Good Things that happened this week.
I’ve commenced a re-read of Lord Peter Wimsy’s entire detecting oeuvre. This may take a while. I do so love Lord Peter, he’s a thinking woman’s detective. Reading Dorothy Sayers can be challenging, not just because of all the 1920s, 30s, and 40s British slang, but because she assumes an erudite reader, and makes all sorts of allusions and references that are sometimes hard to catch. (For example, she’s where I learned that there is a name for early printed books,
Incunabula, because Lord Peter collects them.) But if you’re widely read and have a long history with British Country House murders set in the period between to two great wars? Then her stuff is great fun.
I found my Flare license that I’ve been trying to find for months now. That makes me happy, because I had thought it was for Flare 6, but it’s for Flare 8. Which means I have a better chance of still being eligible for an upgrade rather than having to buy a completely new license.
The plumber came and fixed the water heater. So I can enjoy some peace and quiet without worrying about what the heck that horrible noise is!
Lunch on Thursday with
guy_todd and
fionaniconnor on Thursday was great fun. Hell, it’s always fun to get together with my rennie peeps outside of faire. We’re always good with the puns and the weird stories and just seem to manage to enjoy the hell out of ourselves and laugh and laugh and laugh. I don’t know what it is about faire that attracts such good people, but it does.
I finally got around to dyeing my hairs again on Thursday in advance of my interview. It’s been several months, and the grey was creeping back in. I like what I see when I look in the mirror much better now.
Not only did I have a very successful job interview on Friday, but I’ve got a couple of other nibbles that I need to follow up on, including one today from a recruiter that clearly didn’t notice that I’m directly connected to the VP of HR at the company he’s recruiting for! I’d like to think that if I was a good match for that job, that Tammi would have already called me in.
I got kudos this week over on A03, and that is always a Good Thing ™. It’s nice to know that somewhere out there someone is reading something I wrote. And liking it.
Linkies!
I’ve been remiss with keeping up with Good News Friday, so lots of links this week.
How did I
miss that HuffPo was covering Trump in
the Entertainment section and not Politics? (And kudos to HuffPo for calling him out on being a bigot and a racist!).
If you missed it, here, go enjoy this wonderful
Carrie Fisher interview from Good Morning America. She’s hilarious! I <3 her so much right now.
I find it hard to believe that there are folks out there who have never seen Star Wars, but here’s
someone live-tweeting their first viewing and it’s comedy gold!
Chocolate aficionados, I present to you
The ToblerOrange! GENIUS!
The amazing story behind To Wong Foo. One of my favorite movies. Things have changed so much in the past twenty years that it’s hard to remember what a struggle it must have been to get a movie about three drag queens made.
