And I just had a light bulb moment about why some members of the dominant culture are so horrified about the idea of social justice.
If you’re part of the marginalized or minority group, you see equality as simply raising your group the level of everyone else.
But if you’re part of the dominant group and you’ve invested your time in saying that the group you see as “other” (women, blacks, GBLT, the poor, etc.) is inferior, and you see granting them equal status as you lowering yourself to their level (rather than rising them up to yours)….
Well, that explains an awful lot that I hadn’t quite grasped before.
