It's one thing when some random person on Facebook - young mother, seeming fairly liberal and open-minded from conversation up to that point, wouldn't mind having a chat with her at a party - does a U-turn from "genocide and child murder is NEVER acceptable" to "well, if God ordered it that must be okay" in the space of ten minutes. Bit of a chip off the old faith in humanity, but what can you do.
It's something else entirely when a rabbi spends several days trying to convince you that genocide is the rational and appropriate response when someone threatens the purity of your tribe.
