Meet the Parents: Day 7

Apr 25, 2006 23:21

So I get home from work to find them watching TV. What a shock, as that's what they're always doing. Anyway, once Leticia comes home, we head over to the Old Spaghetti Factory, where we basically sit in near silent for 20-30 minutes while we wait for our table. Leticia's dad is nice enough to ask how my dad is doing, however, which is nice, though he seems to bore of my answer quickly.

Once we sit down, it's time to decide what to eat. After staring at the menu for a while, I finally decide what I want, and stick with water. Once we all give our orders, Leticia and her mom start talking band stuff...again. It's all they seem to talk about...ever, and I REALLY get tired of it. I escape to the bathroom so I can make a voicepost and slog back to the table.

I get my food, and my plate seems the smallest, even though I ordered one of the most expensive things on the menu. "This is just perfect," I think to myself. I finish my food faster than everyone else, Leticia's dad taking FOREVER to finish his spaghetti, as he endlessly picks at it and eats nearly one noodle at a time. I nearly go insane at this point.

Then they do two things that don't really surprise me, but confound me nonetheless. First, they ask for more bread and butter...but only so they can slice up the bread, put the butter between the slices, wrap it up with a napkin, then put it in Leticia's mom's purse to take it home. Then, Leticia's mom pours some of her water into Leticia's dad's glass, so they have about equal amounts of water. I don't know why they did this, since water didn't cost anything and the waitress was nearby...

We finish our meal and everyone walks to the respective bathrooms. Once three of us come out, none of us can find Leticia's dad. It appears he went on ahead and decided to wait for us next to the car, without telling any of us. After a short discussion, we decide to go to the Grove, since most malls will close soon and we need a place to go. On the way there, Leticia's dad sees a gas station with gas for $3.11 a gallon (which is cheap around here). He says I should fill up, but since I'm about half-full, I didn't think I needed to. I hate filling up anyway these days, since it's so depressing.

He then asks me when my birthday is. When I tell him it was in February, he tells me to pull in so he can fill me up. I'm shocked, but decide to do as ordered and cross two lanes of traffic to pull in. He then proceeds to use the supplies squeegee to clean my windows, my headlights, and my taillights, as well as check my oil. This is very nice (albeit weird) but in a way I feel like it was male bonding. I'm not complaining about free gas at all, it was just a bit surprise.

Anyway, we finally get to the Grove and make it just in time to get extra time for parking. Leticia's dad splits off to go to Barnes and Noble (a wise decision) while I stay with Leticia and her mom. The two ladies then proceed to go...clothes shopping. This is DEATH to a male, as we'd rather have our finger nails ripped off then go clothes shopping, but I quietly deal with it for a while. Eventually the boredom gets to me and I decide to text someone...but who. It's about 9:30 at night and I didn't want to bother anyone, so I text one of my bestest buddies, Jan, saying "So bored. Please kill me." After some more text messages, I conclude the conversation and split off myself to Barnes and Noble when I was given permission by Leticia and her mom to do so.

After a blessed time of solitude in Barnes and Noble, Leticia calls me to tell me they're ready to leave. I come down the escalator to find her and her mom staring at musical DVDs. I then take the Crosby, Stills & Nash DVD she wants and proceed to buy it, only to be stopped by seeing Eddie Izzard DVD's for $13.99. $13-fricking-.99. I call bloodylovecraft to find out which DVDs I need for our initiation of devidarkwolf into the beauty that is Izzard. She reminds me that emmelinesparrow purchased ALL of them recently, so I decide to hold off and buy them later when Leticia isn't around (since, as I explained to to her, Leticia doesn't appreciate stand-up comedy).

After we leave the Grove, we drive home, wherein I begin to get annoyed of Leticia's dad's constant humming. I don't even know what he's humming, and I don't know why it didn't bother me before, but it's bothering me now. It probably has something to do with the increased volume.

And now I'm home, typing this up, while Leticia's dad watches the news and explains something about how someone killed a neighbor of his in Iraq or some crap. I'm tired, and I'm going to bed shortly. I hope you had a shiny night, and may you have a wonderful day tomorrow.
