Finished Dresden book 9 - White Night

So last night I finished the ninth and latest book of the Dresden Files series, White Night. And all I can say is...WOW...

As much as I loved Proven Guilty, I think this book was better. I really loved Molly as Harry's apprentice, and think she'll do a fine job as an up-and-coming wizard. Murphy was always a delight, as was Bob. The real surprise in this book was Thomas. He showed a strength of character that I'd rarely seen before. Elaine was cool, but she still kind of annoys me.

I also have to say that the battle at the end, with Marcone and everyone, just BLEW ME AWAY. When Harry nearly BEGGED Marcone to help save people, I was nearly moved to tears because it was just so touching. The battle as a whole was told in such a way that I felt it captured the FLUIDITY of such a conflict in such an amazing way that I've never quite seen on paper before. It was just so well written and well described that I nearly felt like I was there.

So my favorite scenes in the book?

1. Harry at Thomas' apartment, talking to security.
2. The big battle/climax with the vampires.
3. Harry discovering Thomas at the hair salon.

Just BRILLIANT stuff all-told. Now I'll have to start reading them all again from the beginning. :)
