Stuck in New York (for a while)

Apr 26, 2005 07:10

I'm on vacation this week, but due to financial reasons we're not really doing much of anything. This is kind of an "extra" week because it's the first year I have 3 weeks paid vacation (just hit 5 years with my employer).

Yesterday we decided to go to the Palisdes Center in West Nyack, NY. I'd driven by it before but never had the chance to stop in. It's a huge 4-level mall that has all of the usual mall stores, and enough little unique stores to make it worth the trip. It was easy to get to, and only took 2 hours to get there.

The only problem we had for the day was that we had to stay there longer than we wanted because there was apparently a JUMPER on the Tappan Zee Bridge and it was CLOSED for several hours. This is a very high-traffic area and there was NO WAY we were leaving the mall until it was opened again. The situation eventually resolved itself and we got gome around 9:30pm.

My big finds for the day:
-Southern Comfort & Jack Daniels coffee
-4 pairs of "work pants" for $10 each
-8 ties @ .99 each (yes, $7.92 for *eight* ties)
-The Final Countdown 2-DVD Limited Edition - I first saw this movie at the drive-in when I was 8 and have always liked it. It's about the present-day (well, 1980) USS Nimitz aircraft carrier that encounters a storm at sea and ends up in the Pacific Ocean just days before the attack on Pearl Harbor. It's an awesome movie and if you're into time travel/millitary/WWII movies I highly recommend it. I finally have a replacement for my UK import, full-screen, PAL format DVD.

Stacy's never-ending quest to own everything with Stitch (of Lilo & Stitch fame) found us getting a new stuffed one, a t-shirt, and a cool Andy Warhol-ish coffee mug.

We also discovered a cool store called Steve & Barry's that had TONS of Old Navy-ish novelty t-shirts & clothing, with everything under $10. We got a few shirts ($4 ea), a hoodie sweatshirt ($10) and Stacy got a winter coat on clearance for $5!!

FYE violated street date for the new Ben Folds CD Songs For Silverman but I've already got it coming in the mail (and downloaded it a couple weeks ago).

Enough rambling for now, have a great week everybody!!
