Someone once sang something being as freaky as deja vu, and even though they sang a shit song, they had a point. I'm currently employed in a school (started tuesday) and something about the people and the building rings a bell. The building gives me a bad feeling, i can just picture myself running towards it in an urgent stylee, and this isn't exactly a job i'd run to if i was late. Not that it is bad or anything, just that the only job i'd run to is one where someones life depended on it. And then there are some people there who remind me of others who i have known or am generally reminded of. One teacher (maths) reminds me of a history teacher of mine from yonks back. My main boss bloke reminds me of a cross between my first IT teacher and a maths teacher. However he is a generic manager type. He decided to suggest some improvements to my cable tying methods when the example he saw wasn't even mine and he wouldn't let me try to correct him.
The job is a basic tech support role, the sort of job i've been looking for for a year now. The kids are mostly alright as long as you aren't teaching them or interacting with them in any way. The stuff im doing is the sort of stuff they would give to anyone new, the stuff which is important in general, but not as important as other stuff they've got on and doesn't require extremely high levels of trust. Soon i should be on the computer which monitors all the stuff people look at, and shall be checking out who are the worst offenders in breaking the "fair use" rules. For example, on friday one teacher came to us in a semi-fit of moderate rage asking us (well, my supervisor type and his colleague cos i can't do much of anything yet) to ban a pupil from web access and check out what else he'd been looking at.
Whats funny about that situation is that he only got found out when the teacher spied his screensaver which featured pornographic material, and his web searching only bought up some gay porn sites (it's weird to be in this situation here you are seeing a kids social choices "come out" like this). He probably wasn't one of those "worst offenders" i'm meant to be checking out soon (i say soon, it may be next year because i think school hols start next friday). He could have gotten away with it if it weren't for his pesky male hormone filled confidence. Idiot.
