24hrs from 4/16 in email
My last year at tech I was part of an undergraduate research program designed to comb through social networks and learn how alternate methods of communication were used in emegency situations. A lot of it was writing code to comb through tons of emails, text messages, facebook posts in order to see how one thing linked to another.
It just so happens that I also am not a believer in deleting email. So this is essentially all the emails I received over a 24hr period that day. The only ones unpublished are the emails to organizations from org presidents. I have the email that I sent out but in all honesty, I don't want to read it. All I can see in it is panic and just a general sense of being overwhelmed in general, so I figure the other presidents wouldn't want theirs published either.

All 3 days are mandatory. These will be MANDATORY full costume run thrus. Choreographers are responsible for letting your performers know and also making sure that they are all there.

we will start at 9am in Burruss, and do 2 full run thrus with a lunch break in between. If there's any time after the 2 run thrus then we can have a break (maybe go see VSA show), your choice. but BE BACK AT 5PM IN BURRUSS!!!!

A shooting incident occurred at West Amber Johnston earlier this morning. Police are on the scene and are investigating.
The university community is urged to be cautious and are asked to contact Virginia Tech Police if you observe anything suspicious or with information on the case. Contact Virginia Tech Police at 231-6411

A quick note to say good job yesterday.
All of your hard work paid off.
A couple of things:
1. If you borrowed any cooking supplies from Cranwell (Spoons, Electric Cookers, Chafing Dishes, Tongs, Spatulas, Grilling Utensils Hot Pad, Oven Gloves etc. Please return to Cranwell. We can’t afford to replace these items on annual basis.
2. If you cooked in a church kitchen, women’s center, Squires Center, or residence hall, it would be very thoughtful and much appreciated if you could drop them a note indicating how much you appreciated using their space. Every year we beg places to allow us use the kitchen. It is important to maintain these relationships. Please consider dropping a thank you note.

In addition to an earlier shooting today in West Ambler Johnston, there has been a multiple shooting with multiple victims in Norris Hall.
Police and EMS are on the scene.
Police have one shooter in custody and as part of routine police procedure, they continue to search for a second shooter.
All people in university buildings are required to stay inside until further notice.
All entrances to campus are closed

The university was struck today with a tragedy of monumental proportions. There were two shootings on campus. In each case, there were fatalities. The university is shocked and horrified that this would befall our campus. I want to extend my deepest, sincerest and most profound sympathies to the families of these victims which include students There are 22 confirmed deaths.
We currently are in the process of notifying families of victims. The Virginia Tech Police are being assisted by numerous other jurisdictions. Crime scenes are being investigated by the FBI, University Police, and State Police. We continue to work to identify the victims impacted by this tragedy. I cannot begin to covey my own personal sense of loss over this senselessness of such an incomprehensible and heinous act The university will immediately set up counseling centers. So far centers have been identified in Ambler Johnson and the Cook Counseling Center to work with our campus community and families.
Here are some of the facts we know:
At about 7:15 a.m. this morning a 911 call came to the University Police Department concerning an event in West Amber Johnston Hall. There were multiple shooting victims. While in the process of investigating, about two hours later the university received reports of a shooting in Norris Hall. The police immediately responded. Victims have been transported to various hospitals in the immediate area in the region to receive emergency treatment.
We will proceed to contact the families of victims as identities are available.
All classes are cancelled and the university is closed for the remainder for the today. The university will open tomorrow at 8 a.m. but classes will be cancelled on Tuesday. The police are currently staging the release of people from campus buildings.
Families wishing to reunite with the students are suggested to meet at the Inn at Virginia Tech. We are making plans for a convocation tomorrow (Tuesday) at noon at Cassell Coliseum for the university community to come together to begin to deal with the tragedy.

Virginia Tech remains closed on Monday, April 16, 2007. Vehicular entrances to campus are severely restricted to essential personnel only. Additional security remains on campus as the investigation continues.
Counseling assistance for students in available at West Ambler Johnston and McComas Hall until 9 p.m. tonight. Students are encouraged to utilize these services. Counseling for faculty and staff is available at the Bowman Room in the Merriman Center (athletic complex). Student may also be together at the Old Dominion Ballroom at Squires Student Center.
The university will also close on Tuesday, April 17. Essential personal are to report for work. Classes will be canceled.
A public gathering will be held Tuesday, April 17 at Cassell Coliseum at 2 p.m. (a time change from the originally scheduled 10 a.m. gathering).
All students are urged to contact their parents as soon as possible to let them know individuals are safe.
Students, faculty, and staff who may have any information related to the incident at West Amber Johnston Hall and Norris Hall are encouraged to go to the Blacksburg Police Department to make statements, or call 540-231-TIPP (8477), or 231-6411
Parents with concerns are asked to call the Dean of Students Office at 540-231-3787.
Individuals injured in the two shootings have been taken to area hospitals.

Virginia Tech has closed today Monday, April 16, 2007. On Tuesday, April 17, classes will be canceled. The university will remain open for administrative operations.
There will be an additional university statement presented today at noon.
All students, faculty, and staff are required to stay where they are until police execute a planned evacuation. A phased closing will be in effect today; further information will be forthcoming as soon as police secure the campus.
Tomorrow, there will be a university convocation/ceremony at noon at Cassell Coliseum. The Inn at Virginia Tech has been designated as the site for parents to gather and obtain information.

CNN checking on reports the shooter at VT may have been an “Asian” student. Any idea if he was of Chinese origin? I saw this:
BLACKSBURG, United States, April 16 (Xinhua) -- No Chinese students have been found among the dozens of victims in Monday's shooting rampage on the campus of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech), in the eastern U.S. state of Virginia.
Ray Wang, a board member of the Association of Chinese Students and Scholars (ACSS) at Virginia Tech, told Xinhua that he was not at the scene of the shootings, but he had contacted quite a number of Chinese students and had so far got no word that Chinese students were injured or killed in the incident.

Owing to the tragic events that have affected us all, classes have been cancelled for the remainder of this week. Consequently, HW 10 will not be due until Wednesday, April 25 and this will be the last homework assignment of the semester. We will work together the last five lectures of the class (4/23,25,27,30 and 5/2) to cover essential material that you will need for follow-on classes, and to prepare you for the final exam. I will be in my office most of each day for the remainder of this week (Wednesday through Friday)should you have any questions about 2704, or any other matters of concern to you for which I may be of help. As I've learned from many e-mails and telephone calls the past two days, just talking is often of considerable help. I will also try to post some material related to the homework and material I had intended to cover this week. Virginia Tech remains closed on Monday, April 16, 2007. Vehicular entrances to campus are severely restricted to essential personnel only. Additional security remains on campus as the investigation continues.
Counseling assistance for students in available at West Ambler Johnston and McComas Hall until 9 p.m. tonight. Students are encouraged to utilize these services. Counseling for faculty and staff is available at the Bowman Room in the Merriman Center (athletic complex). Student may also be together at the Old Dominion Ballroom at Squires Student Center.
The university will also close on Tuesday, April 17. Essential personal are to report for work. Classes will be canceled.
A public gathering will be held Tuesday, April 17 at Cassell Coliseum at 2 p.m. (a time change from the originally scheduled 10 a.m. gathering).
All students are urged to contact their parents as soon as possible to let them know individuals are safe.
Students, faculty, and staff who may have any information related to the incident at West Amber Johnston Hall and Norris Hall are encouraged to go to the Blacksburg Police Department to make statements, or call 540-231-TIPP (8477), or 231-6411
Parents with concerns are asked to call the Dean of Students Office at 540-231-3787.
Individuals injured in the two shootings have been taken to area hospitals.

Hi,
I'm the choreographer of the Thousand-Armed Buddha dance from UVa, and we're supposed to be coming on Saturday for your CAS performance. In light of the recent tragedy, I'm wondering if the performance is cancelled. I'm very sorry to hear what had happened this morning, and it's thoroughly understandable if CAS will not perform on Saturday. However, if you chose not to cancel, I can still send you the music if nobody else has sent it to you yet.

Virginia Tech has closed today Monday, April 16, 2007. On Tuesday, April 17, classes will be canceled. The university will remain open for administrative operations.
There will be an additional university statement presented today at noon.
All students, faculty, and staff are required to stay where they are until police execute a planned evacuation. A phased closing will be in effect today; further information will be forthcoming as soon as police secure the campus.
Tomorrow, there will be a university convocation/ceremony at noon at Cassell Coliseum. The Inn at Virginia Tech has been designated as the site for parents to gather and obtain information.

CNN checking on reports the shooter at VT may have been an “Asian” student. Any idea if he was of Chinese origin? I saw this:
BLACKSBURG, United States, April 16 (Xinhua) -- No Chinese students have been found among the dozens of victims in Monday's shooting rampage on the campus of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech), in the eastern U.S. state of Virginia.
Ray Wang, a board member of the Association of Chinese Students and Scholars (ACSS) at Virginia Tech, told Xinhua that he was not at the scene of the shootings, but he had contacted quite a number of Chinese students and had so far got no word that Chinese students were injured or killed in the incident.

My name is Tony Wee and I am a Chinese American campus minister from GMU and I specialize in doing ministry to Asian American college students. I understand the horrible tragedy that has come to Virginia Tech and I give my sincere condolences with your campus community.
As you may know, the assailant was Asian American (Korean specifically). I am a short 4 hours from VT, and I would like to make myself available to possibly visit the VT campus this Thursday and Friday to provide counseling and spiritual guidance within an Asian context for any student a part of your organization.

Owing to the tragic events that have affected us all, classes have been cancelled for the remainder of this week. Consequently, HW 10 will not be due until Wednesday, April 25 and this will be the last homework assignment of the semester. We will work together the last five lectures of the class (4/23,25,27,30 and 5/2) to cover essential material that you will need for follow-on classes, and to prepare you for the final exam. I will be in my office most of each day for the remainder of this week (Wednesday through Friday)should you have any questions about 2704, or any other matters of concern to you for which I may be of help. As I've learned from many e-mails and telephone calls the past two days, just talking is often of considerable help. I will also try to post some material related to the homework and material I had intended to cover this week. I thought I would post material earlier,but my ability to focus on classwork (as I am sure yours) has been very limited the past two days.
