On Monday I submitted my thesis work as a paper for a conference. Yesterday I extended that paper with two more pages, and now it's done.

I'm defending my thesis coming Friday. If you wanna be there, just leave a message :).

Tomorrow will be a project kill day at work. The intention is to push my project forward, and in such a state that I can leave it to rest for the coming 14 days, so I can get into full time thesis mode. In the pask week I have been working on implementing the final models for my thesis, which was quite difficult. Why? Well, if you're working with a document collection that is big, like I am working with now, you run into all kinds of memory and speed issues. An important part of my thesis is my participation in this year's TREC Blog track, where I'm specifically handling the feed distillation task (which is precisely what my thesis is about). Today, we submitted a paper of our approaches to the tasks, which you can read (PDF), if you're interested (Section 3 is what I'm doing).

In the past couple of weeks I've said to various people that working on my thesis felt a bit like swimming in the dark. The main reason being that up until now no serious scientific effort was given to the area I'm working on, and that I missed the necessary data to evaluate my ideas. After finishing my first round of courses at the end of May, I moverd on to work on my thesis project (yes, thesis. It's a master thesis this time). Days go by quickly. I'm currently very busy with my bachelor thesis, which I'll be wqorking on for the coming three months. Deadline for submission is the 26th of January. Will possibly report later on what it's exactly about, but I like the subject.
