firestations
yesterday I rode in fire truck! The firemen dropped my coworker and I off at the subway...cool eh?
It was really interesting to tour the firehouses yesterday. It'd never been in one before. They have bunks, a kitche, a weight room...you can really sense the fraternity. Most of the firemen claim ownership of their personal space by decorating it with various newsclippings, inappropriate jokes, pictures etc...you could definitely imagine the different personalities...In the basement, inbetween all the jacks that are holding up the floor that the trucks are garaged on, the men have set up their weight room. very resourceful! there was no sign of any females firefighters either...but boy, is that firehouse in need of renovation! It is so crappy in there, it's like some 80's basement, and it's just as damp and mildewey...but defintely some beautiful spaces - light shafts, residual space, even the forest of jacks was pretty interesting.
