A Bad Meme

Our conclusions are true, therefore any evidence which appears to disagree with our conclusions must be wrong.

This seems to be one of the fundamental memes of creationism. Creationists know that they are right and if scientists state that the evidence contradicts their beliefs then the scientists must be either deluded or malicious. The same sort of thought process can be seen in other extremists and tends to go like this.

I am right, anyone who disagrees with me is either deluded or evil.

You can see this kind of thinking happen in some loons. If a person is unable to conceive of the possibility of honest disagreement there is little point attempting to have a debate with them. For example to some of Israel's supporters if you suggest that Israeli behaviour was unnecessary provocation and should as much as practicable be reversed you must be an evil anti-Semite who really wants to murder all Jews. You would probably find other examples of similarly extreme positions if you looked in the right places, it's just that that one is fairly easy to find on Usenet, generally held by Americans.
