So, my new acoustic band had our second practice today (the first one was just the bassist and I, this one also had the mandolin player). Tuesday I'm practicing with a female vocalist who may wind up joining this band, or the band I'm practicing with on Monday.
Anyway, it's still hard to tell how this is all going to work out. The bassist and the mandolin player are having a lot of trouble figuring out what to do in my songs, but they also occasionally come up with some cool shit. Also, I really fucking suck at singing and playing.
Anyway, we have a ton of material. There's a bunch of shit that I haven't even shown them yet, such as "The Empty Seat in the Venue" that I really want to do. There are also a few covers that I think could be interesting to do that I have yet to really fuck with, especially with them, such as Hum's "Little Dipper" which, especially as a duet between me and a female vocalist, I think could be awesome. The bassist also has a couple of songs that he showed us that we might do. However, one is incredibly similar to a Pixies song, while another, if I'm not mistaken, is very similar to a Hum song.
At the moment, these are the songs that we've been practicing and, therefore, will probably do:
The Minimalist
We've Lost Our Way
My Last Words to You
Hold Me Close to Your Heart
Unsure
Covers:
Get You In (Better Than Ezra)
Whatever I Fear (Toad the Wet Sprocket)
Tithe (Torrential Downpour)----cus why the fuck not?
Torn (Toad the Wet Sprocket)
Ache (Jawbreaker)
Dam Would Break (Toad the Wet Sprocket)
Huh, I thought we played a lot more than that. I guess part of it is because I had jammed with the bassist on a few more songs, but wound up deciding to use them with another band. When we did "A Taste of the West" he was like "Man, this song really needs some drums behind it. It could be a big rock song." And he was right. It works as an acoustic song, but it would be awesome with a full band rocking it out. We also jammed a little bit with the Disco Song and New Son of the Moon, neither of which I really want to do with this band.
