Just had a snippet to translate (for the refugees and asylum dept. of the region... not sure how they got it but... well).
It's just so... so... SWISS.
It sure makes a change from other stuff I've been doing too. In fact it's humbling and entertaining at the same time. I suppose it's needed in English to remind all the wicked, nasty foreigners of their Civic Duties as, of course, they will be the suspected culprits. I confess that I don't always sort my waste like a good little wifey either...
It's here:
NOTICE TO ALL HOUSEHOLDS
This message is important and concerns every inhabitant of the village. The Communal Authorities placed a tip at the disposal of the population, open to all, in April 2000. Unfortunately, we have noted that our employees regularly find this site in a condition that can only described as catastrophic.
Since the quantity of waste has increased and the situation has further worsened thanks to careless sorting, we are forced to bear the financial consequences of the increased workload this entails. We are therefore no longer able to carry out our efforts without adapting the "waste tax".
By this notice, we wish to remind each inhabitant of the following:
The opening times of the tip must be respected, i.e.:
Monday: from 07.00-12.00 and 14.00-18.30 hrs.
- Tuesday to Friday: from 0.730-12.00 and 14.00-17.00 hrs.
- Saturday: from 08.00-11.45 hrs.
· Waste must be sorted and placed in the appropriate containers for each item, i.e.:
PET containers, oil, batteries, paper, glass (bottles) Note: no window glass allowed, compost, iron, rubble (broken asbestos cement (Eternit), earth, terra cotta, broken concrete, window glass, etc.), tin cans (please use the press), clothing and aluminium should all be placed in the recipients provided;
· Electrical apparatus must be placed in the special container at the tip;
· Large or bulky items must be taken to XXX SA, or preferably returned to the point of sale.
Reminder
Household waste must be deposited in front of homes every Monday and Thursday, as of 07.00 hrs. The containers at the tip are not intended for household waste.
The tip is reserved for the use of the inhabitants of XXXX only. The Communal Council reserves the right to fine those who do not respect this restriction.
The Communal Council urges all inhabitants to comply with these rules, and remains,
Yours sincerely,
May 2003 Communal Council
