Day 18 - What is the cutest pairing?
Buster & Babs Bunny (no relation) and Shirley McLoon & Plucky Duck from Tiny Toon Adventures
Specifically, the episode titled 'Thirteensomething'

I adored Tiny Toons as a kid and remember being obsessed with this episode in particular. I recently re-watched it and was pleasantly surprised at how much better it is when watched through grown up eyes. These four characters kinda remind me of my friends in the scenes where they argue about what to watch on TV. The flirty (and sometimes risqué) banter between Plucky and Shirley was hilarious. And seeing Buster and Babs admit that they’re crazy about each other and hated being apart makes me go “awwww” every time (just like the studio audience).

The best Buster/Babs scene in the episode is the part where Babs misses Buster so much that she decides to call him from the studio.

Both of them go overboard trying to play it cool over the phone, which leads them both to believe that the other doesn’t even miss them. For a silly show like Tiny Toons, it’s a surprisingly sad scene (though Plucky and Shirley’s antics in the background lighten the mood considerably). And the character animation in this scene is really well done. Startoons really knocked it out of the park with this one.

awwww :(

All the jokes about shlock TV still hold up surprisingly well today. I still love the gag where the human TV executives assume Babs’ appearance and bizarre stage name (Bunnywalskioversmith) is an “ethnic thing” that can add diversity to the cast. And the ending of the episode is very sweet.

D'awwww :)

Day 19 - A pairing you've rooted for since the beginning?
Pebbles Flintstone and Bamm-Bamm Rubble (The Flintstones)

This is another ship that’s fueled more by nostalgia than actual chemistry (when the two Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm movies aired on TV, my sister and I recorded them and watched them again countless times!).
Back in the early 1990s, Hanna Barbera made two TV movies centered around the grown up Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm. The first movie (I Yabba Dabba Doo) was about their wedding and the second movie (Hollyrock-a-bye Baby) was about the birth of their first (and second) child.

Here is Fred carrying his pregnant (and in-labor!) daughter to the hospital while gangsters chase them.
It almost makes sense when you watch the movie

The movies are very cute and are still entertaining today despite their cornyness and the fact that they went a little overboard in making all the main female characters super modern and independent.

Hanna-Barbera showed us almost every stage in Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm's lives (various Flintstones spin-offs showed them as babies, toddlers, middle-schoolers, teenagers, and then married adults with children of their own). Getting to follow them through all that was pretty cool (even though I now realize how strange it is that their parents never seemed to age with them).

Sadly, neither of these movies are on DVD. But they show up on Boomerang from time to time and have found their way to YouTube.
