So, we're off for our camping trip to the coast. Rialto Beach is a place we managed to visit for a picnic, the last time we went camping. This time, we'll be either there or at the Hoh Rainforest campgrounds. Either one would be nice to me.

When I was very young, I would go camping with my folks and sibs in a large 12 man tent. There were a lot of rainy camping trips for us, but the one I remember the best was when the grandparents went with us, in their RV, and we kids got to sleep in there instead of the tent because the tent was soaked. Dad and mom stayed in the tent anyway, since they had an air mattress that had kept their sleeping bags dry.

It was on that same trip that I managed to cut my foot pretty nastily on a fishhook, though. After the trip, my foot ended up badly infected and they'd thought the two first toes would have to be amputated if the antibiotic didn't take effect. Luckily it did. These days, I'm more careful about going into water with my swimshoes on, I commonly watch where I'm stepping, and find myself more eager to cool down then leave the water before fish will begin to nibble.

I still always look forward to camping, though, even with the bad experiences I'd had in my youth... because dispite those times, I always learned something new about the world around me or about myself. This still holds true today. Last trip, I came to understand the need for true stewardship to still be practiced in the world around us. Now, I'm wondering what I'll learn this time.
