I've been listening to the radio for a particular song again, but hadn't heard the DJs name it. Last night, it was on, and Purr was able to locate it, letting me know what it is. I love the beginning of the song; just because it really drives things home, imho, with how people seem to talk so harshly or spout off without thought to their words, these days.
o/~ In the day, in the night
Say it right, Say it all.
You Either got it, or you don't;
You either stand, or you fall.
When your will is broken,
When it slips, from your hand.
When there's no time for joking;
There's a hole, in the plan. o/~
The rest of the song goes on:
o/~Oh you don't mean no nothing at all to me, (aye)..(aye)
No you don't mean no nothing at all to me;
But you've got what it takes to set me free,
Oh you could mean everything to me.
I could say (say)
that i'm not (not)
lost (lost)
and at fault (fault)
I can't say (say)
that I don't (don't)
love the light (light)
and the dark (love the light)
I can't say (say it)
that I don't (don't)
know that I (I)
am alive (alive)
and all of (a-a-aall)
what I feel (feel)
I could show (show you)
you tonight (you tonight)
Oh you don't mean no nothing at all to me, (aye)..(aye)
No you don't mean no nothing at all to me;
But you got what it takes to set me free,
Oh you could mean everything to me.
From my hands,
I could give you
something,
that I made.
From my mouth,
I could sing you
another brick
that I laid.
From my body (from my body)
I could show you (i could show you)
a place (a place)
God knows (that only God knows)
You should know,
space is holy.
Do you really
wanna go? (two, three, four)
(you don't mean no nothing at all to me)
(you don't mean no nothing at all to me)
So I sit and listen to the song, and have to wonder why a song with such clever opening lyrics is only making reference to sexual connotations and holding so many sexual overtones. Then I remember that this is a song done by Nelly Furtado, who only ever sings about sex or love that didn't go right. (At least of the songs I've heard from her.) But still, those opening lyrics really could make a person stop and pause, if the rest of the song didn't interrupt their train of thought.
