Settling I suppose

About a year ago we got the news that Dessie's job was under threat. Not long after that we heard that, shile he'd keep a job, it would no longer be what he'd been doing and we started to think about other options. I hated my job in Glasgow and was desperate to get out so moving seemed a reasonable plan. The problem was that all the jobs he was offered were in England, and after my previous experiences as a student I wasn't keen to live in England again. However, he was offered a place in Nottingham, and some calls held out the hope of a decent job for me down here too, so we bit the bullett and made the move.

We've been here for 8 months now, and this week I have suddenly felt like this is a place I can call home. I've got a good job in City, and have applied for an even better one there. (Fingers crossed) I'm getting used to the hospital and like the people I work with. It all seems to be going well so far.

I see Gill and assorted others on Wednesdays for the craft nights, and Gareth has convinced me to join the local AmDram where Gail and Helen also go.

This weekend I took Duncan into town to visit the Food Festival that was going on in the market square. While there we bumped into Gail and Barry who were also wandering through. Once we got home, Duncan was straight off to play with his friends, and I went over to see Helen who helped sort my back out. Later there was chatting with the neighbours, before I took Duncan to his friend's birthday party.

Today, I took Duncan to rugby practice, and bumped into one of the doctors from work whose son was playing there. Then Duncan was invited to join the rugby kids as a mascot for the championship match in Notts County grounds. We jumped at the chance. Our neighbour dropped us in to the stadium as Barry advised against driving, though it turns out that there's loads of parking on rugby days.

Duncan had a whale of a time there. He had a tour of the stadium, and then held #11's hand as they ran out onto the pitch. He was absolutely delighted with himself. It was a really good match, and though D struggled to keep up with the action, he enjoyed himself. He had fun with the other kids too.

After the match we were invited up to the hospitality suite to meet some of the players and there were colouring things and quizes for the kids.

He's now off with the girls two doors down again.

Yes, I think this has been a good move all things considered.
