"We should do this more often."
"What? Nearly get ourselves killed on the wrong side of the country?" G smirked before lifting his bottle to his lips.
"Speak for yourself, I was fine back there."
"What ever you say, big guy."
Sam shook his head, but grinned just the same. It had been years since he'd been back to New York - so much had changed since then. And now he was here with G.
"Come on I want to do something."
"We are doing something." G countered but followed Sam none the less, it had taken them years to get to this point. Where it was more than just teasing banter between them - when it wasn't one of them pushing at the other trying to find the point where they would break. It was more than just a partnership.
"Something better than sitting around drinking."
"I am not going dancing. I don't care what sore of blackmail you have on me."
"You might change your mind later."
"I seriously doubt that."
"Just come on."
It wasn't California, with it's wide open highways and sunny beaches, but Sam wasn't about to ride the subway or the city bus either. G could deal with a little traffic - patience was a virtue and all of that. Patience right up until they reached City Hall.
"Sam-"
"Yeah?"
"What are we doing?" He could hear it in G's voice, that tone that said he was trying not to freak out, subtle but there just under the surface. Just slight enough that most people would miss it completely. But when you'd known G as long as Sam had, when you had gotten as close as he had, you got to know these things.
"It's not going to count back home, but that's not really important. This is for us."
"Sam I-"
"Just wait, G." He hadn't planned on this when they'd ended up following a lead out here, but now that they were here, Sam couldn't come up with a single reason not to. "Suits and churches aren't ever really going to work for us, unless you've suddenly decided you need that sort of thing."
G snorted, and Sam couldn't help but grin as he placed his hand on the back of G's neck, not quite as close as he might have liked, but he could save that for later, his own practice in patience.
"It won't be recognized back home, but I'm not doing this for them. This is for us, you and me." It had been a journey to get here and Sam thought it would continue to be just that. "What do you say? Want to get married today partner?"
"I-" Sam had never put so much of himself on the line for G before, not that he wasn't completely willing to do it again and again until they made this work, but waiting like this - it tried even his own patience. "Yes, yes Sam."

"Terrified."
"Don't worry, I've got you back."
"Just like always."
"Just like always." Sam agreed.
