Bones #100

I LOVE origin stories. It's why I don't mind the proliferation of them when it comes to superhero movies, and flashbacks can be even better! (In Plain Sight did that this week, too. Weird.) Only problem: they kind of screwed up old Brennan. For one, the clothes are wrong (not that I don't like these better, but she used to be all frumpy/earthy anthropologist, not stylish scientist - even her casual clothes here are too styled and fitted to be right). They did get Booth's hair right, though, which is awesome, and her confusion/snottiness are oh so familiar. And I do love that they each obviously think the other's hot. SO MUCH sexual tension there. And how cute are they in telling this story?

Oh, this episode and the flashbacks and all these awesome characters - it's just making me remember why and how much I love this show. Exactly what a 100th episode should do!

Also, I think I just found out why my ribcage is so freakishly, disproportionately large (seriously, I have to go up a dress size to fit it): 12 years of swimming! Thanks, Brennan!

How does Angela know who Jimmy Neutron is?

As for the rest of it:

I'm really, really, REALLY unsure of how I feel about them kissing on their first case. I feel just like Sweets, like the ground has been pulled out from under me. For one, it totally changes my view of the entire series so far, and I'm kind of horrified. But it also makes sense, with the way they've been looking at each other all along. But more importantly, I don't really like it when people go back and say, "Oh, hey, the premise you've been watching this entire show on? It's wrong. And that probably wasn't planned." I mean, I suppose it could've been, because we did know from the beginning that that wasn't their first case. But it seems unlikely.

And the ending BROKE ME. Oh man. I just fell in love with them, separately and together, all over again. I love, love, love that she's protecting him from herself, and I nearly cried at the look on Booth's face. Brennan's, too, with her tears. And I can't believe the show just did that: they changed the paradigm in an unexpected, earth-shattering way. I know tons of people are going to be upset, and I'm actually one of them (NO! MY SHOW! MY ALL-TIME OTP!), but I still think it was brilliant and beautiful and so in-character, between Booth's arguments for why They should happen and Brennan's face (watch the hope and joy that blossom on it when he broaches the subject, followed by her own fear of ruining everything). I hate that they did this, but I love that this show makes it possible.

This is why Bones is my favorite show.

But if Booth and Brennan don't get their shit together sometime soon, I will hate it forever.
