I never talk about politics on here, because I'm all about fun, but tonight...

So, we've definitely got a Democratic majority in the Senate, there's a significant Democratic lead in the House, and CNN just predicted Barack Obama President (based largely on exit polls, but still).

Guys? This is huge. :D

And to celebrate, my daily fic before I FINALLY sleep: West Wing, Josh & elections (how could I not?). In honor of those of us who voted for the first time ever this year. :D

Josh has been following elections since he knew what an election was (you mean HE gets to pick the President? So cool! He doesn’t even get to pick dinner!). He’s been volunteering for campaigns since he was fourteen; the first time he was turned away at the door (“Kid, we need people who can drive, or, barring that, people who sound legitimate on the phones”). He came back the next day, made it through the doors without being stopped, walked straight to the campaign manager’s desk, and said, “I know how you can win.”

“No offense, kid, but this is my job. I know what I’m doing.”

“Well, you’re handling the tax issue all wrong. If you make it about education, only half the population cares. If you make it about public services - education, public libraries, trash collection - then it matters.”

The manager stopped his paper shuffling and looked at him. “Education has won me my last three major elections.”

Josh shrugged. “Those were younger constituencies.”

“How do you know the word ‘constituencies’? How do you know anything?”

“We have a problem passing school budgets in this town.”

He ran for coffee for the rest of that campaign, but he was working and they won, and he’s never gotten over that feeling, not when he voted in his first Presidential election (absentee from Harvard), not when he was personally asked by Congressman Brennan to be his chief of staff, not even when - well, working for Jed Bartlett trumped it, but not by much, because you never forget your first.
