Subbing

I have days when I feel like the students don't take me seriously. In fact, this occurs most days. Thinking back to middle school and high school, I try to remember how I treated substitutes. My memories don't contain me being a bad student; I was an A honor roll student until about my 8th grade year then I continued to do mostly B work through ( Read more... )

Too hard on yourself, perspective two adairmarie March 18 2009, 01:43:59 UTC
Sister, you are too hard on yourself!

Seriously. You just started substituted teaching this past fall, give yourself some credit. The first year of any job is difficult. You are figuring out what is expected of you and the best ways to do things...

I believe in you. You are a smart woman. I believe that, with time and experience, you will learn the best ways to manage the classroom. Furthermore, being a substitute is a tough job! Subs don't get nearly as much respect as the regular teacher AND have the disadvantage of not really knowing what has been going on in the classroom previously.

Don't let these young, rebellious and disrespectful teens get you down. You are 5 years beyond high school, it doesn't matter what they think/say/do, so long as you are getting paid at the end of the day. You have a steady income and can buy groceries -- I just went on Food Stamps!

And you DO contribute to Benjamin. Although HE is not there when you get home at the end of your day, YOU are certainly there for him when he gets home from his. That counts for something, doesn't it?

Cheer up, sister. Life is always going to be hard, no matter what job you have. It is your attitude that makes the difference. Sorry, that was kinda cheesy, but it's the truth!

Know that I love you and will support you regardless of what career path you choose (and even if you don't choose one!)

Thinking of you and sending *BIG HUGS*
Adair :)
