Okay, I admit that I'm not very interested in awards, so I had no idea what's going on there now, but I absolutely love all the beautiful fashion photos you posted. It seems that classic elegance is comming back and it's gorgeous (apart from Helena Bonham Carter of course - I understand that this is her 'look', but to me, she just looks weird in the dresses she chooses). My favourites are the dark blue in the first photo and the sparkling grey/black one (#8). Thanks for sharing!
natalie's speech, lmao. it started out ok and then went crazy. she all laughed at her own joke. priceless.
i think i'm the only one who didn't really care for olivia wilde's dress? it was beautiful but too over the top for me. loooved claire danes dress though.... guess i just love simple elegance.
LOL. Oh god, Natalie. I know when she started laughing at her own joke about Benjamin, it was like a crazy jackal laugh. I thought she was being taken over by the Black Swan!
I love Claire's dress. I do feel like Olivia's dress was too obvious, cause it was like all over the place when Marchesa was showing. I mean, I know that Marchesa is super popular with celebrities, but at least choose a less obvious design.
Then Ricky disappeared for a big chunk of the show and I thought maybe he got fired midway, but then he came back.
HA! That dawned on me as well. :D That would have been very entertainingly scandalous. But no.
I thought Melissa Leo was very good, but I wasn't too impressed with that movie overall & I'm gonna be annoyed when she keeps winning stuff, especially over Manville, who I thought was amazing. I'd definitely say Hailee is Leading, yeah--she's in that movie even more than Jeff Bridges is--but yeah, I also don't want Michelle to get kicked out (and I doubt she will, since she has The Power of the Weinstein on her side). :\ Too many good people this year. I'm worried.
Foreign Film is always weird. I'm not sure about this year; I've heard Biutiful isn't great (although I still really want to see it) and I thought I Am Love was silly, and IDK about anything else...oh, that category is always dumb. :P They always make odd choices
( ... )
Manville wasn't nominated though.. and I don't think she can squeeze into the category unless Hailee Steinfeld gets bumped up to lead (which then kicks out Michelle Williams). Ugh, stupid categories. Honestly, I would be happiest if Mila Kunis gets kicked out in favor of Manville or Weaver, but at this point, I highly doubt that will happen. So overall, I'm generally ok with things.
I didn't really care for I Am Love. Tilda Swinton was great, as always but the film just dragged on forever and didn't really click in any way for me. It's very beautifully shot but I'm a little confused as to why it's been such a popular choice for Foreign Film this year. The critics' reviews for it aren't even that good... lol

I was a big fan of Ricky Gervais too and I knew I would be. He's hilarious and was just saying what we were all thinking. I loved him and I think HFPA's claim about him never getting a nomination is ridiculous. But I enjoyed myself so that's what matters.
Christian Bale was one of the best bits about the show, I think, I love him and I'm glad he's getting more recognition and respect from Hollywood, he deserves it.
I wasn't necessarily surprised at Inception not getting anything but I was a little disappointed. I look forward to them winning technical awards at the Oscars but, as someone who's not a big fan of The Social Network, I don't think it should have swept the way it did and if not Inception, at least The King's Speech should have taken more awards over TSN. But that's just me. I have TSN's soundtrack and I do like it and I get that it's modern and different but for me, personally, that doesn't make it superior

Well, it's not like they didn't know what to expect from Ricky Gervais. He basically pulled the same stuff last year. If you hired him after that, then I think you should just take it like a man

That was my thing as well. HFPA knew what they were getting into. To stamp their feet and throw a fit is just immature and ridiculous. I mean, really.
That's how I feel about 127 Hours (and, to an extent, The Social Network). I am on top of the world that Colin Firth is getting the recognition he deserves (and if Christian Bale wasn't around this yea, I'd love for Geoffrey Rush to be winning too because he was fantastic but I love Bale too so I'm happy there). It's all a matter of preference and I thought The King's Speech was flawless and it still does resonate with me but you can't say the same for everyone.
You make a good point there. To be honest, I would have wanted Inception to win over TSN for score. I can understand The King's Speech not winning because, while it was pretty, it didn't enhance any scenes as you said. But I think Inception had an incredible score and deserved that win. Then again, they might also be looking at Zimmer having enough awards for now.
uggghhhh Slumdog Millionaire winning was like a slap in the

And honestly, when you nominate stuff like The Tourist and Alice in Wonderland, you pretty much deserve all the crap you can get. lol
The King's Speech would've been like the obvious 90's Best Picture winner, cause for some reason that's what they were into back then. But I think in the 2000s, the only winner that fit the mold would be A Beautiful Mind and that movie gets so much shit (kind of deserves it though for winning BP in a year full of great movies. ugh 2001 was such a joke). I liked TKS, but I KNOW that if it won, it would get a lot of crap for it and I'd prefer if it didn't get that reputation as like this century's How Green Was My Valley (and that movie was actually good too). LOL.
Slumdog Millionaire was just one of those movies that I was like WTF ARE WE WATCHING THE SAME MOVIE. 2008 was one of the worst Oscar years ever. They just nominated so much crap and left out so many good things. 2009 at least had good winners in the end (other than Sandra).
