Great list! You know, overall I've felt disappointed in the 2010 cinematic releases, but when I look at everyone's top ten lists and the nominations for major awards it's mostly a batch of very worthy films. I know that True Grit, The King's Speech, Black Swan, and the trio of animated films will be making my own list for sure.

I've enjoyed this year quite a bit, but I don't know that I saw any films that would eventually end up on my all-time favorites like a few did last year. I do feel like this year was much more consistent in quality, like there were very few flat out disappointments even if some things didn't live up to expectations like Never Let Me Go. Last year, there were just too many hyped up films that ended up being bleh.

And I've seen all the Best Picture contenders except for The Fighter now and honestly, the only one that isn't that worthy is The Town. Everything else, I'm fine with seeing them nominated.

Not a fan of a few of these, but good on you for putting your list out quickly.

As far as animated films, I do hope you get a chance to catch The Illusionist, which I felt was superior to Toy Story 3 and Tangled (I did not see How To Train Your Dragon).

I am looking forward to The Illusionist, but I'm not sure when I'll be able to see it. I was a big fan of Triplets of Belleville though, so I have high hopes for it.

Definitely a great list. Haven't seen a lot of these. Still need to see Inception--although now I'm glad I waited to open it seeing as it is now $10 cheaper at Best Buy, so I'm going to go out in a bit and get it, I think. I also need to finish Black Swan and rewatch The Social Network. Tangled was so much better than I expected--happy to see it on your list.

As far as movies for next year go, besides HP, there's not much I'm looking forward to either. However, is it sad that there's a new Winne the Pooh movie coming out in July, and I'm incredibly excited?

Thanks! It's good to get things after Christmas, everything's way cheaper. I liked Tangled much more than I thought I would too; cause the trailer looked so pedestrian and pop culture-ish that I thought it'd be another Shrek knockoff.

I try not to get too excited about anything until I've heard some things about it, cause that always leads to disappointment. lol. HP seems like the only big movie that I'm looking forward to, but even that, since the books are already over, I don't feel any sense of urgency for the last part anyways.

They definitely are. I should have waited. I just watched (and loved!) How to Train Your Dragon, so I'm going to see if Best Buy has that on sale as well as Inception. Definitely can't beat the $9.99 price for Inception!

This is true. Pretty much every movie I was looking forward to this year fell short (with the exception of HP, which I thought was very well done) and movies I had no intention of seeing ended up being fantastic.

Yeah, I just went shopping today and stuff was so cheap. lol. HTTYD is definitely worth buying, imo. It's very re-watchable.

That happens a lot to me actually. This year was actually OK cause most of the films I was anticipating at least didn't didn't disappoint. But last year was TERRIBLE. All the big hyped up films ended up being so mediocre.

This is fantastic. So many of these are on my list to watch. (Is Black Swan super scary? Is it gross at all? I'm nervous about watching it, but want to so, so much. I have a hard time with horror, though.)

I'm bookmarking this post for reference. ;)

Black Swan isn't like 'scary' in the typical horror movie sense, but there are scenes that are just kind of disturbing to watch (peeling skin/nails and stuff) . But you can always sense when those are coming and you can look away, so there aren't many "surprise" scares.

Is the peeling skin/nails a dance-related injury? Like on the feet? But, yeah, a lack of surprise scares is a good thing. =) Thanks!

yeah, part of it is that. it's not even super graphic, but the way it's shown does get under your skin.

I haven't seen all of the things on your list (can't wait to see The King's Speech, True Grit, and Exit Through the Gift Shop), but I so, so agree with the 3 animated movies, and Black Swan. They were all better than I expected, and my expectations were already high for Toy Story 3 and Black Swan.

Exit Through the Gift Shop is already out on DVD I believe! I do think for the most part, the films this year met my expectations and a few of them were pleasant surprises.

Ooh, thanks for telling me, I'll definitely check it out.

Do you mind telling me, exactly how much violence did True Grit have? I'm very squeamish. I managed to get through Black Swan just fine, and I know True Grit is only rated PG-13, but I wanted to check because I usually cannot deal.

If you can handle Black Swan, you'll be fine. There's maybe one scene that might be pushing the PG-13 rating, but overall, you don't see much blood. It's definitely not as violent as like Unforgiven or some other westerns.
