wow...

so I've been trying to get home for the last almost two hours. I work 15 miles from here. We are having a storm that rivals any that I've weathered in Northern Maine. The difference is that here...well, they have a thing about not plowing the roads. Except, see, a foot of snow has fallen in the last 5 hours. It's insane! But...no plows. Not one. I don't know what they are waiting for...maybe more snow? I don't know. I do know that it's beautiful outside. The sky here is so very big that it feels like it must be snowing everywhere. The wet, gray, low-lying clouds spread out for miles and miles so that it must be snowing in Kansas City, Omaha, and Pittsburgh. I wish you could see the sky out here. It makes up for the lack of ocean with it's enormity.

As I was walking in from the car I thought, "All this snow makes it feel like home." It's one of those storms that makes you want to snuggle up, drink some cocoa, and watch Steel Magnolias. Ha!! You know what I mean. It's one of those storms that makes you wish you had a bottle so you could capture some of the quiet, muffled, winter calm. You could open it up in July when you are hot and sticky and wondering if you'll ever be cold again. You could pop the cork on a day when all you want is for things to be silent and careful.

It's one of those storms that might make you want to put on your Gore-Tex, get your woolly mittens on, and go for a long walk . It's the kind of storm where that walk would be greatly enhanced by expensive wine in a travel mug. You know the kind. I've seen you out walking in the peace, too.
