Ok,so it's rant time.
I just saw an episode of a show called Final Fu while channel surfing. It's on MTV2, so I didn't expect much from it, but what I got was even less than what I DID expect. They make it out to be some big martial arts contest when all it really turns out to be is a competition among people with the most useless, impractical martial arts there are. Not only that, but they aren't allowed to use them to their fullest! The combat rounds were nothing but striking. No throws, no face contact even...it was pathetic.
I swear, if you're going to go into a competition, and it isn't just a competition within your own discipline, at LEAST go into one where you can DO everything you learned how to do. I can at least see why it was nothing but Tae Kwan Do and karate of various disciplines in there. Although watching them, you wouldn't think they were black belts.
Maybe i'm just biased, but every single one of them would've gotten hosed by almost any decent jujutsu or judo practitioner. Their only power and training was in striking.
