Loyal members to one society will not adapt to another society because they did not meet the prerequisites for loyalty to the other society through their past. e.g. where christians remain loyal to their faith, they will not give it up because they did not endure conditions in their past that would allow them to give it up. (Conversion to the scientific method requires an formative environment that has fostered doubt and a lack of trust, even in oneself. These requirements are a very big wall for a person who has been taught to use faith his or her entire life. They may even be insurmountable due to the deep intertwining principles of faith and the base animal)
