Ode to My Palm

I am hopelessly dependent on my handheld computer. That little bugger is my regular calendar, plus alarm that goes off five minutes before every class to remind me to stop working in my office and get my butt downstairs before I'm late. It contains all my contacts, allows me to type word documents without having to lug around my laptop, and has wireless access and games so I can check LJ, read fanfic, and generally play when I get bored in class (not that I would ever do such things). It is also my mp3 player with about 500 songs on it that I listen to on my daily walks to and from campus. I don't know what to do without it. Unfortunately, I'm going to have to learn.

Yesterday, I was attempting to open a web page on it (actually for class). The site was too large and caused the whole thing to crash and auto restart. It restarted just fine but when I tried to get back on the net, it automatically tried to reload the same page, with predictable results. It restarted again and I tried to connect to the net through a slightly different process that would hopefully prevent it from loading the offending page. No such luck and it crashed again. This time, when it was half-way through the restart, the screen went black and it hasn't responded to anything since. It appears as if the battery isn't even charging any more (perhaps the whole problem is just a battery issue?).

I called my folks last night because they gave me the palm as a gift so they have the warranty info and receipt. I talked to Dad while Mom talked to tech support on the other line. I got it about this time of year last year so I jokingly said the warranty had probably expired two days ago. My dad came back a little later and started teasing me about my two days ago guess. This was yesterday (Oct. 31) and the receipt was dated Oct. 29. At first they were saying the warranty had, in fact, expired two days ago and I was in serious trouble. Then they decided that the warranty was dated from the date of registration not purchase. The last day of the warranty was... yesterday. They are going to repair it free of charge because we called last night. They are sending a box, I will send them the palm, and within two weeks I will have that one back working or I will have a refurbished (not new) one. At least I sync my laptop and my palm every week so I don't think I lost any major data.

I won't whine too much since they are repairing it without charging me an arm and a leg, but for the next two weeks, I have to be responsible for remembering where I'm supposed to be and getting there on time without a prod. I have no music on my walks and no internet during boring classes. Bah humbug!
