Just went to breakfast with my dad. He wants to know if I'm taking any academic classes this year (because obviously, music isn't academic...) I said I was thinking about it... although I already have 16-17 credits, plus all those late nights of practicing. His response was,

"I just don't want you to get cheated out of a college education."

Last night, I was talking about my late nights of practicing... and he said,

"Well, if you're all playing in a big group, can they really tell if you practice or not?"

I had to put it in terms of passing/failing classes for him to understand. Not to mention playing in chamber ensembles or by myself... yes father, they sure as hell CAN tell if I don't practice.

Yeah. Go team. I wish he were just a tad bit more supportive... Just because he went to big name schools and became a lawyer, it doesn't mean I have to follow in his footsteps. Hate to say it, but I don't really want to be anything but a musician. I'm just getting sick of all these under the table blows to my career choice. Not to mention the comments about summer festivals... ("I thought you were supposed to be saving money to pay for school"...)

UGH.
