I am glad my two work days this week are that.
Only 2.
So... ya want me to tell a story? A story of a strong woman who traveled to a Kingdom far, far away?
Flew out of DIA Thursday afternoon. Security sucked ass, we were running late, and was very glad mizz Red had premiere stuff going for her, or we would have not made it.
Thursday evening, met up with kniggit-1's familia in San Jose at this tres-spiff Indian restaurant named "Amber", which in my humble opinion is a good omen. Thankfully my shyness did not turn up too harshly, and I was able to relax and enjoy my food. uhmmmmmm Indian food was sooo good! There also was an incredible Shiraz wine that was poured into my glass -- I wish I had thought to write down the name, as it went down easily.
Poor kniggit-1 was ill, however, and did not eat much. Poor guy then yacked on the way to Sac, and was ookie all night. I slept like the dead (like usual!) and was up with the sun (like usual!) and puttered around with stuff helping Steffie load her truck.
Thankfully, the upset stomach cleared itself out (because there was nothing left in any part of it) and we were able to slowly and deliberately go to the site, check into motel, get a bit of nutrition into sick-boy (chiken noodle soup is your friend!)
Meanwhile, weather is happening. rain rain rain. The site of Crown tourney is soggy and boggy. I am thanking my lucky stars that we did NOT decide to camp, because it would have sucked ASS!
Saturday roles around -- sick-dog-boy has turned into something resembling my kniggit, we goto site and I sign up for the list, and try to fight down the fluttering bugs in my stomach. It is not the fighting I am afraid of anymore, it is the speaking to everyone within the sound of my voice (which can, and has carried for a very long distance) But, I sucked it up, listened to invocation and everyone else that I couldn't hear (the site of crown was right next to a grain processing plant which is VERY LOUD) and spoke my piece.
I then challenged Heinrich, and waited for my turn to be called on the field.
Long story short -- Crown tourney I was 2 and out. Life goes on, they were both fabulous fights that I almost won. Each of them were nice, clean, hard-hitting and everything I wished they could be. I kept my head-space, everyone else disappeared except for the person in front of me, I worked on controlling the fight, and had fabulous defense. There was no 1-shot thrown on me. =)
I then tra-la-lah'ed off to the Roses tourney, and had folks lining up to fight me. *gleeful giggle*
I got to send my consort 5 roses, 4 of which he received because the 5th person forgot to hand him the rose while talking to him. I also had the priviledge of delivering 3 or 4 roses to some lovely ladies, and expounding the virtues of their men to them, and to the Queen.
Watched the finals of the tourney, cheered the victor (Duke Radnor) and then was hauled off to the shower/food because my body temperature dropped. (like usual!)
After food, zoomed back to site in my bestest viking dress, watched women make fools of themselves, listened to beautiful music, sat still while doing it (very unusual!) was unrecognized in my dress/garb clothes because 90% of the folks usually see me only in armor.
Woo hoo, what is underneath that armor? Could it be a girl? Oh My GOD!

Sunday:
Relaxed, slept in, put owie-juice on my bruises, zoomed to Sac to hang out with skwire-brudah and his girl, ate mexican food, played with Amy-dog (i love labs) then zoomed off to Santa Cruz.
Santa Cruz
Wow. Beautiful area -- cool funkiness that I can appreciate. Had an attack of happy feet from sitting in the van all day, so we zoomed around and checked out the sites.
Had incredible sushi for dinner. I am RUINED for it now -- it tastes SO MUCH BETTER near the ocean than it does inland.
Enjoyed watching the trees in bloom. It is springtime out there. We have yet another few weeks before _the change_

Monday
We went to the beach! Capitola beach had a slight tint of sunshine, and I wanted to see the ocean. It was stormy/very wavey and cold. I saw some shells and went to go pick them up. I got a little damp from a wave catching me off-guard. Sneaky little bastard.
Seeing all that water made me feel very, very small. It was an incredible feeling. I loved the smell, I loved watching the crazy people riding surfboards.
Kniggit-1 and Mizz Red I think had a fun time watching me devolve into a 5 year old. Perhaps even 3. But, I have some shells now -- I think I will string them like beads and wear them with my garb. (starts doing research to see if the vikings did that)
Cruized around downtown Santa Cruz some more -- got really cool socks at a store DEDICATED to socks (and nice shoes) Was SHOCKED at the prices on some shoes.. Didn't find any of those things I couldn't live without. Thank the gods.
Went up to Bonny Doon tasting room. Tasted nummy wine stuff, purchased a boute-call monkey t-shirt... Drove in the mountains near where they used to live (Bear Creek Road) was amazed at how green things were. Told and listened to stories.
Came to kniggit-1's parent's house (which is where we were staying) and got wallered by a 5 month old mastiff puppy. Had massive brain-leakage and had to go to bed because I couldn't speak from the cuteness.

Tuesday
Slept in. Woke up late. Went and had breakfast/lunch at Vicillis Greek food. I weep now for the memory of that fabulous food. I gorged myself and had to be rolled out of the restaurant.
This over-fullness was topped off by a stop at Marianne's ice cream with a HUGE bitter chocolate and mandarin malt -- which assauged the sadness of it raining again (it kept raining every time I thought about going to the beach and wading in it!)
Went over the hill into cement land-San Jose to visit with Fabe, Ellie, Xander-man and Neva. Was mostly quiet and listened. Had a good time playing sword-boffer with a toddler, looking into the depths of a raised up house and seeing the possibilities, and fiddling with armor bits in Fabe's garage.

Wednesday
Woke up too early, in excitement, because the plan was to goto Monterey to the Aquarium. Went and got bagels, drove to Monterey and got there about 45 minutes too early -- perfect timing for me! I went down some stairs to a little half-moon beach, and watched the waves, and finally decided that it "looked safe enough" and took off my shoes, rolled up my pants and went wading.
IT WAS FREAKIN' COLD!!!
Of course, it did not stop me. and then, there was a sneaky wave that blind-sided me and I ended up thigh-deep in the water, wet up to my hips. I am sure you folks can imagine the squeals that eminated from me.
After not being able to feel my footsies anymore, I plodded back to the van where a change of dry clothes was waiting for me.
Aquarium was fabulous -- I loved seeing the jelly-fish and the HUUUUGE tanks of kelp, and the otters. It was a bit crowded with all the kids there, but I was still able to get a good view of things.
Cruised along cannery row...was tempted to jump back into the ocean, as it was nice and bright and sunny again, but we needed to eat before going to the airport, and I had no more dry clothes.
Flew home.. no craziness.. little bit of turbulence. Flying in and out of San Jose is so nice and easy compared to DIA.
Was picked up by Unkle Magz and the POODLE! Loved on the poodle, and then drove myself home from kniggit-1's haus. Then loved on MY Dogz. Went to seepy-bye time with Inga curled up by my knees, Joe around my back and two kitties purring on me.
Guess my animals missed me.
That, in a nutshell, is the story of zooming off to CA. What a trip.
