How much do I love it that you are "glaring" at the Schwartz in your AN? That's an added bonus ( ... )

Thanks for your comment! I've always been a huge fan of Reading!Ryan and Doing his homework!Ryan! It's realistic to picture a teenager reading and doing homework, isn't it? I hope because as a teenager, those two activities were pretty much my only ones (how pathetic!).
And I'm a huge fan of Sandy/Ryan's interaction, so I have to write about it even if it's a dream!
Thanks again for commenting and Happy Chrismukkah (gotta take my train in half an hour...*glare at empty backpack and obnoxious cat trashing the newspaper in teeny tiny pieces*

You were heading for your train and I was heading for one of my many (it turns out) planes. I guess we're both back now- and safely too ( ... )

I'm glad you mention it, because there's only a few TV shows where the high school students are actually often studying or reading. When I was a student, I was always studying and rarely (ok, never, but I would have loved to. It's just because I wasn't invited. Lack of high school popularity I guess!) partying ( ... )

It really does seem that there are very few shows with characters who are in school at some level that depict that part of the experience with even a modicum of realism. It would certainly make sense, to me anyway, that Ryan, who would have had very limited access to anything resembling a structured education at all, would certainly want to take advantage of every possible opportunity. Not only would he feel practically sick at the money the Cohens were spending on him for private school and feel horribly indebted and obligated, but I really think he would be intrigued and fascinated by the new resources and avenues suddenly available to him. It's obvious that he is very curious, a keen observer, and an avid reader. He must be mostly self-taught, even if he had rather marginal grades previously. That wasn't a reflection of his ability, but rather of the environment he was attempting to function in and the circumstances that dictated so much of his life. I would see him feeling compelled to put real effort into school and wanting ( ... )

As for "M," that was the casting director's or TPTB collective huge gaffe fromt the beginning. If they had to cast her, they should have either minimized her role and kept her in the background as a supporting player, or killed her in T.J. I thought she was an albatross in S1, but I could barely stand to watch S3 since she was practically in every scene- and needlessly. Why they ever felt the need to write so many episodes around her when both the character and the "actress" had no charisma or magnetism and, in the case of the character, few redeeming qualities, is beyond me. There was nothing engaging or compelling about her story. Apparently, most viewers agreed. Her death alone made me very excited for S4 ( ... )
